Meant RR ;-) So. Put a deposit down on a new Speed RR. Shade under £14k brand new. In white. Hopefully it'll arrive before Christmas, then the small matter of working out how to wrap it for myself! Living to my. 'Never test rode a bike' biking theme. What are the nice surprises I have in store? For context, my most recent biking history is. X2 765 RS. Ducati Diavel And my current bike. And my favourite bike of all time... Thruxton RS black with the fairing. The engine. It's described by the media as a little uninspiring, unless absolutely canning / chasing the revs. Thoughts ? Suspension. Seems clever. Is it good, or marketing BS? I.e my Thruxton is fun up to 80 mph as it's moving and shaking around. Is the Speed too serious for normal road speeds? Touring. One of the main reasons I bought the speed is to tour. Anyone done it. Thoughts? (Need some luggage, gone are the days dealers throw stuff in for free!) I put out messages to Ducati on the V2 street fighter, BMW on the S1000r. Even MV. I'd have loved a FTR1200 but strangely - all of them are pretty expensive on PCP despite having the same sticker price more or less. Looking forward to the Speed arriving. Will I regret getting rid of the Thruxton. Exciting one way or another!
Hi BT81 and welcome to the forum I always loved the look of the Thruxton, but old joint mean I cannot ride in that position anymore. Speed Triples are at the top of the range and admired even by Thruxton owners I know. Best wishes on your new ride love to see your current
No experience of the 1200 @BT81 and I know it doesn't help in the slightest but I love my Speedy so I'm sure you will be pleased!
Absolutely love mine. I'm 55 & it feels so special & exhilarating to ride, I never give comfort a thought as its not an issue. Get a Powerbronze screen & tail tidy ordered. The suspension is excellent, especially compared to my 1050RS that I traded in which was bloody awful, far to harsh. My preferred setting on the RR is Sport Mode, with Comfort setting for the suspension.
Looks great Dickie. Did you paint the pillion footrest/ silencer brackets or did they come in the black colour? I think they are silver as standard and they just look wrong imo..!
Cheers pal! Looks great. I do like the exhaust hanger! Big question. Is it fun at legal ish speeds. I went to Luxembourg on the Thruxton RS a few months back. Very much looking forward to doing the same thing ! Looks good. Very happy I've ordered white!
Absolutely love mine.... I'm 60 short and heavy Had 4 speeds and this one is a different class... More than comfortable for me No aches and pains here . Netherlands last summer with 30ltr kriega tailbag no worries. Far too much tech will never get through all rider mode/ settings Had rear spring adjusted for me and leave it sport/comfort..... Mirrors are a little vibey and unless your head down/arse up ..for me cant see a lot out of them Apart from faulty oil sensor at the beginning nothing bad to report Agree get a Powerbronze screen Tyres wear out quickly if you use her
It arrived! Turning it on and off is a massive faff. What's wrong with a key. And the pillion footpegs are U.G.L.Y Other than that. Can. Not. Wait to get out on it! Once I remove the Castrol sticker.... Plans. 1. Fit a new quad lock 2. Evo tec exhaust hanger. 3. Buy some luggage. 4. Run it in. 5. Head to north Spain As soon as....
Happy New Bike Day! Totally agree with the keyless bollox, completely unnecessary gimmick. Enjoy your new toy
Have you a photo of your kriega set up? 30l sounds big for a tail pack, Undecided whether to get a 20l kriega rucksack and 10l tank / tail pack?
here you go ...... I went for the 30ltr as i can get what I need in with no need for a rucksack .. Only thing i would say from people I know a full 20ltr bag sit better than a half full 30lrt
..... I went for the 30ltr as i can get what I need in with no need for a rucksack ..trainers /shoes /locks . Only thing i would say from people I know a full 20ltr bag sits better than a half full 30ltr....... had bagster tank cover/bag and on old triples if/when they do one I would get another one ....... Hope all of this makes any sense as I've toasted a few too merry Christmas'
Cheers for the photos - Useful to know about the sizing. As it's unlikely I'd need more than 20lt. When I went to Belgium on the Thruxton RS. I had the Triumph wax tank bag - which is approx 8.5 lt, however, it's a slightly awkward shape. That and a rucksack was fine If anything the lack of space meant I only took the 'important things Think I'll go with a 20lt Kriega tank bag option and rucksack - As I assume the rucksack will 'sit on the tail bag' when sitting more upright/stationary. Similar to the Triumph tank bag, I assume a kriega tank bag is easy enough to move to one side to fill up? Bike related. Due to the weather.....who knew getting a bike over Christmas was a bad idea! I've done about 10miles so far 1. The key is still annoying 2. It's not half as uncomfortable as MCN makes out. 3. The dash is super slow 4. The engine spins up FAST! 5. The run-in revs are ridiculous. How are you meant to do 100 miles at less than 3.5k revs??? Other things. I sprayed the bike with ACF-50. Whilst having a look about the bike. The exposed wiring near the shock. Is this correct? I'm surprised it's not boxed off? Also, I fitted the quadlock mount. It's better riding than it looks in the photo. The mount is quite high and at a standstill, you'd think it would be too close, in the way. However once riding it's fine. Ideally, i'd make my phone stay in landscape when using google maps. But I can only lock it to portrait...
Similar to the Triumph tank bag, I assume a kriega tank bag is easy enough to move to one side to fill up? Not sure ...I used a bagster tank cover and bag previously which ..has 4 fixing points and that 'hinged up' to refuel.....added bonus was tank was fully covered no worries about marking tank....
'' Other things. I sprayed the bike with ACF-50. Whilst having a look about the bike. The exposed wiring near the shock. Is this correct? I'm surprised it's not boxed off? '' Yeah I had noticed that ....similar thing going on at front ....maybe there's a reason for this ....dammed if I could work it out though
The keyless thing I've got used to now ..... have it on lanyard..like used to with alarm fob ..... like most things more I used it the less I thought about it .......
10l tail pack is too small for me, I bought the medium held one, looks and fits great but wish I had bought the large. If anyone wants to swop gimme a pm, also for sale, used once £30
