What's the low down on the new 765RS due to be launched on Thursday? Anyone have any inside information?
Triumph are keeping things close internally until the 03/11, I guess to keep the interest going, they say (Triumph that is) that the new machine has more power and many new internal engine parts, although don't expect Moto 2 type performance, no doubt it will be a price hike on current models, it's to be hoped the design team have some newfound imagination for the paint colours.
They need to do something as they are currently in Henry Ford mode. Only one colour to be had, a sh1++y black on all models. Had that been the case last year I definitely would not have made the purchase.
They updated the engine in 2020, not sure if they'll update it again so soon. From what I've seen, it's mainly running gear/cosmetic changes.
Just had a quick look on the Triumph website and these are the things that immediately came to my notice. R engine power and torque increased marginally to what the RS was. RS increase in power by circa 10 bhp with corresponding torque increase. Colours no longer limited to mat black, but those now available are appalling. The S version no longer available. The R (LRH) version no longer available. Big mistake this is. New Moto2 version which is just a tarted up RS with same power and torque. Had this been the case when I walked in the showroom this time last year I would not have made a purchase. As it was I just sat on it in the showroom, didn’t even test ride and bought it. PS there is a Black Friday clothing sale going on at the moment. Good reductions down to what the prices should have been in the first place.
I like the upgraded spec and the colours but I'm not sure the Ohlins forks and dropped handlebars warrant the extra £s on the Moto2 version
Moto2 has clip-ons, ohlins forks, clear (non-red) tail light. R has budget display, rabbit ear mirrors, can't option cruise control, less peak power, no track mode. No brembo stylema front brakes, no ohlins rear shock, no fully adjustable levers, no lower chin spoiler RS has extra 10mm ride height link over R that can be removed. There's an optional LRH seat but yeah seems like the bespoke oem LRH suspension option is mia. Gonna have to diy like other bikes by slipping the front clamps / aftermarket rear link or whatever.
Even with the lower seat mods I don’t think they get the seat height under 800 mil. This is one of the main reasons I bought my LRH this time last year, seat height is 780 from memory. Power for the R is up, but only by 2 PS on mine. Not sure which Brembo model I have on the front but cannot fault them as they are easily up to the twin two piston callipers I have on the Ducati. The rear shock on mine is a Showa, as are the forks, only the RS had the Ohlins. The TFT you can put where the sun don’t shine, I love the analogue tacho on my LCD display. Hadn’t noticed the reduction in tank capacity. The shape of the mirror lens looks different, otherwise the “rabbit ears” look the same and I had originally expected them to be one of the first things I would change but they have grown on me. I may experiment with bar ends but just a cheapo eBay pair to try out. The updated electronics package with lean angle ABS and traction control is good but the electrickery on mine is a revelation compared to my totally analogue Ducati which has none. Until the day I collected the bike I hadn’t realised that it had the auto-blipper.
Yeah it says 826mm for R model, then -28mm for LRH seat. You'd have to slip the front and rear 18mm to get 780mm, not too bad. Holy shit, the aftermarket rear link can drop by just over 100mm.
I wouldn't rely on the low seat - I originally got one for my Tiger, used it once and returned it as not fit for purpose. It was like sitting on a plank of wood.
i did wonder whether that would be the case. In August we did a long weekend in Wales, 800 or so miles ridden and my 75 year old posterior coped well on my 2021 LRH.
That’s an amazing performance on a bike that you certainly wouldn’t consider a tourer! I had a LRH as well, and found it really comfy for long days in the saddle - far more so than I’d have expected.
I don’t know, I’m pretty excited. I didn’t think they’d pull out another Striple at $10,000. Sure you can nit pick this and that, but in the world of mid weights, that R is pretty competitive! As is the RS when you’re looking at Yamahas 900 with real suspension. And it’s a bargain compared to a Monster! To be honest, the way things looked only 3 months ago, I wasn’t sure there would even be a Striple in the lineup this year. The thing that sucks is these bike are 2024 models in the USA. So I can’t get one till maybe April. At best. But I’m quite sure I will be getting one.
So my view on this bike is the new RS is an upgrade on the previous version and the Moto2 ltd edition is a value upgrade. Unfortunately the RRP of the Moto2 version now puts it in competition with other bikes that are better and so doesn't look like good value. I will probably stick with my Gen 2 RS and wait for a deal on the standard Gen 3 at some point.
No short list but for £13.5k you get a brand new Aprilia Tuono 1100RR, MT10, Suzuki GSXS1000 etc Yamaha MT9SP is £2.5k cheaper.
