    Hello,

Let me introduce myself since I am new here! I live just to the west of Baltimore, Maryland / USA. I will be picking up a new 2022 T100 (Red/White) this coming Thursday. Very excited and got a good "near end of year" deal. Most recent bike was a 2016 BMW F800GT. Had some things about that bike that I eventually didn't care for and sold it in June. I had ridden a T100 in September of 2021 at an outdoor motorcycle show and it instantly put a smile on my face!

I wonder if anyone can answer a question I have. I was looking at having the dealer install the Grab Rail Mounting Kit / Chrome (part number A9759192). I was looking at this to give me the ability to have a rail to wrap straps around for some tail bags I have. Without any kind of rail, I would have to run the straps from side to side directly under the rear fender. That does not seem like a good option to me.

I was wondering if anyone here has this on their T100? If so, is there any room between the rail and the rear fender to run straps, or does the rail sit flush against the fender? Especially wondering how much room between rail and fender in the area indicated by the red arrow line in the picture above. I am also thinking this mounting kit (rail) would be a good option for a place to grab when putting bike on the center stand (which I am getting installed). As a side note, I did not intend to add the actual Grab Rail to the mounting kit rail.

I asked the dealer about this but the salesman didn't seem to have a positive answer. I may speak to someone in their service department this week but thought I would throw it out to some actual owners.

Also, if anyone wants to provide input about how they strap rear bags onto the seat without any rail would be great as well!

Thanks to all in advance and looking forward to getting the bike and having discussions with other owners on this forum!

    Cheers!

Hi, I have a 2020 T120 AceCafe, which I think has basically the same frame geometry as the T100. I had the Triumph brand grab rail mounted on my bike.
There is plenty of room for tie-downs and straps, see pics.
One issue on installation was a small section of the plastic reinforcement grid under the seat had to be ground out to make the rail support fit. Not enough to present a structural problem.
    Hope this helps.

    Hello!

Your pics have helped a lot! Looks like plenty of room for straps for tying down a tail bag. I am still waiting for the dealer to get the parts. Looking forward to it and some more riding. We have gotten hit with a cold/windy spell here this week but looks like some more moderate temps coming next week.

    Cheers!

Seedman - I've got a 2017 T100 with the set up you describe and yes, there is plenty of room between the grab rail and fender to run straps. The grab rail is a great addition to your bike, nice esthetically and highly practical making it a snap to get your bike up on the center stand...

Be advised that the response from walmsley about cutting plastic from under the seat likely applies only to the aftermarket comfort seat which I highly recommend. I myself avoided chopping at the plastic by placing a small wooden shim under the receiving bracket on the frame, but this shouldn't be an issue if you stick with the stock seat (though your butt is sure to get sore).

Finally, I settled on a reasonably priced set of Viking bags for my Bonnie which go right over the rear portion of the seat with velco straps and offer good volume - off and on in two minutes.

    Hope that helps!

Thanks for the clarification about the seat. Mine is the OEM seat for the T120, so may be different from the T100.

    David,

Thanks for the reply. Just got called by the dealer today and all parts are in. So far, I have found the stock seat pretty comfortable, but so far have only put 300 miles on the bike with the longest day being 80 miles. The seat is a little firm but I think it may break in a bit. Time will tell!

    Best regards!

Happy riding guys and welcome to the forum Seedman which, unlike other forums I've been on which shall go nameless (BMW) is populated by wonderful, happy, helpful people as opposed to insecure little pricks.

Does anyone have a grab rail for sale for a pre-2017 Bonneville (air/oil cooled)?
