Has anyone lifted a new thruxton off the deck to get both wheels off the ground, have tried my paddock stands that I used on my old Bonneville. Can get rear wheel off the ground but it is tight due to the new location of the brake caliber. Could not get front stand to work. Looking at bike lifts from the centre to mainley use for cleaning, any recomendations on what to go for would be appreciated.
Would an Abba stand work? I use one on my 2008 Thruxton with a small scissorjack under the front of the frame and it works a treat. I did speak to them first as my bike wasn't listed. They are very helpful there if you phone them.
Just a cheap one with two prongs which just fit either side of i think it would be where a spawl screws into that you would then use the specific stand. But it is a tight fit to get past the hoses to the brake caliber and fiddley to get in position.
This is the one I have, it only works if your frame goes under the bike. You can wheel it around carefully. Good thing is you can get it so wheels are well off the ground or both touching ground, I was able to adjust it so there was no pressure on rear springs so I could change them with no effort, yes it's heavy but it folds up nearly flat, about 5" thick for storage. Hi Crispey When you say frame under the bike, yes it does but there is a cut out to allow side stand to fit into the recess created. At the dealership they said it would be fine to rest accross frame and flat of underside of engine which I would presumme is the sump.was not overly convinced, that is why I was looking at the abba jacks, but they do have some fancy prices.going back to mechanic car days you would never jack on the sump.
Hi Pottsy I was working on my bike today so took the opportunity to photograph my stand set up which may help you. I store the stands on my garage wall: The little wooden 'H' block is what I stick under my side stand to level the bike when checking my engine oil window. Cheers Creaky
Hi pottsy, regarding support across frame and sump, if you feel there is no clearance you can always put pipe lagging foam, or similar , on the frame to create a gap between it and sump. My bikes balance point puts the supports of the lift just in front of the sidestand so there is no issue there.
I use one of these (see photo). It was about £65 off eBay. There is a place in Heywood, Lancashire that makes all kinds of lifts called CJ Autos www.cjautos.eu. I haven't tried theirs, so can't comment on how good they are. I place the two supports onto the frame as close to the side stand and it lifts the bike up perfectly. Hope this helps.
Think Ill get some of the Triumph paddock stand bobbins (A9640048 - £15) and then a suitable rear stand. Anyone recommend one? I have a front head lift stand from my Ducati, just have to change the pin to a 15mm then I have lift off.
Hi Bonzo I have just sent an email to my contact at Hinkley, asking what Triumph sujest so will hold off for the time being, but if I don,t getting any joy,I will probably go down the route that Crispey has. The only issue I have with that is where the balance point will be has it has to be jacked up in front of the side stand, cos as you know the underside of the frame has this cut to recess the side stand into that part of the frame. Also I got the dual seat re shaped and foamed up and returned to me on Friday and I think it will stay on the bike all the time now as it is so much more comfy than before,that solo seat looks the part, but its like having a wedge stuck up your arxxxx.
Does anyone with a new Thruxton live near tolworth Surrey? No I'm not going to nick it, but you could come round and try out my stand!
