22mm and 28mm are both correct The so called Fat Bar is the old 7/8" (22mm) where the switchgear goes and 28 mm where the centre mounting clamps fit
Well what a bloody faff!! Turns out the kit I received had come with the wrong bars, it came with the bars for the R. So after A LOT of ball ache and faff (thanks for your help @Wessa) I’ve found the right bars, ordered them and will drop them off hopefully tomorrow! Then onto getting some money back…wish me luck!
Dropped the new bars off today so hopefully won’t be long now. The originals were black which is what I wanted and the new ones chrome but not a lot could be done about that! Sure it’ll still look good! Although whilst at the garage they showed me what they’d done and the black ones did look banging!
Yes I agree the black bars do long very good and for me are better than the silver or chrome. Mind it won’t spoil the ride for you despite the colour.
Has your bar conversation been completed @MattGaydon ? What is your verdict on the new riding position?
Don’t @Wessa!!! Yet more bloody problems! The extended clutch cable it came with was the same length as stock…so I’ve ordered one but won’t be with me until next week! So frustrating…
Oh no, I cannot believe the problems you have encountered. If anybody is reading this thread and considering the conversation, I would recommend using Bikemart to import the kit from ABM. They were brilliant when I bought mine. https://www.bikermart.co.uk/Triumph-Thruxton-1200R-2016~-ABM-Superbike-Fat-Bar-Handlebar-Kit
Totally agree…even though I didn’t buy it from them Simon has been really helpful and sorted lots for me!! Unfortunately can’t say the same about Square-Deals.
Well the day has finally bloody come…!! Picking her up tomorrow morning all FINISHED!!! No more incorrect parts and even a custom made clutch cable! Jesus it’s been a journey but looking forward to riding her with the new position!
Introducing the “Thrunneville”…! First (very brief) impressions are good!! Will ride more tomorrow b unfortunately stuck in rehearsals all day today!
We run a music school (my wife and I) and we’re putting a music festival on on the 30th July so today is the band rehearsal. 12hrs of playing today and 12hrs on festival day!!! But so far so good!
So I had a much longer ride this morning on the way to work and first impressions are very positive! As @Wessa previously said, it makes the bike turn so sharply!! Really flickable!! The actually position feels very natural and neutral…obviously time will tell with how it helps/affects my back but I’m hopeful. It’s exactly the position I was hoping for. It hasn’t taken away any of the fun of the bike and if anything has made it feel more aggressive and nimble! On a different note… Having done a 12hr rehearsal yesterday (134 songs) I woke up in a bit of a funk. Def didn’t want to work today and was just generally just a bit tired…but… I decided to get out of the house early to have a ride, mostly to try the bars but also just cause!!! And jeez did it help, blew the cobwebs out and put me in a really good frame of mind for the day! So I guess the moral of the story is get out there chaps!! Enjoy the sun and ride safe!
Last one now…had a good run today (150miles) and I’m loving it, would highly recommend it!! Very comfortable and doesn’t ruin the ride at all, quite the opposite!!!
