    Hi all,

So I’ve been struggling with a bad back for a number of years now and for the last 6 weeks it’s been pretty sh*t! I had a long assessment ride on Friday last week and by the end could hardy use the clutch or get off the bike!!

I did a lot of thinking and came very close to chopping the Thruxton in for a more upright bike BUT…

I have just ordered a handlebar conversion kit. This one in fact…

    https://www.squaredeals-ltd.co.uk/t...ike-handlebar-kit-clearance-price-45078-p.asp

So this thread will show the change! I’m nowhere near capable of doing this myself so the lovely folk at GTC will do it!

The kit has been ordered so looking forward to receiving it and then I’ll book her in!

Pretty excited that I can keep her and make her work for me more! I love this bike it was just the riding position that was a struggle!

    Cheers all, stay tuned!

Good luck, I hope it works, would be a real shame to have to sell it just because of the riding position. I too have a bad back but I find more upright positions less comfortable in my case.

I’m just finding I’m putting too much pressure through my wrists as I haven’t got the strength in my back to sit up.

Hopefully this solves the problem! I’ve had Bonnevilles/Scramblers previously and found them perfectly comfortable which is hopeful!

Hi Matt I converted my Thruxton with the ABM kit a couple of months ago. It has transformed the bike. I also had the suspension softened by a professional. I can now ride the bike all day without problems :)

by the way you have a real bargain at that price ;)

    That’s amazing thanks Wessa!!!

Great to see some pics and to hear the ride hasn’t been effected negatively!!!

Square-Deals have messaged to say that the kit is arriving tomorrow morning which is cracking service and she’s booked in on the 4th July (back independence day) to have it fitted.

When your’s were fitted did they say anything that would be useful for GTC to know?

Did they have yours in stock, or did they have to order it from Germany; mine took three weeks to arrive from Germany?
I'm not sure if yours has come with the extended clutch cable, if not you will need one, the brake cable is ok. You will also need the bar end kit. Mine also came with the heated grip bar. Apparently is is different if you don't have heated grips fitted.

Mine was £250 to be fitted by my main dealer. How much have they quoted you?

Haha oh it’s that simple…mine doesn’t seem to make it a link for some reason @Wessa

It comes with the extended clutch cable and says it has a mounting kit for the bar end mirrors.

They must’ve had it in stock as it’s arriving tomorrow, hopefully with everything needed.

GTC have quoted me 2hrs labour so £180 but he did stress that it was a very rough quote. I like them there and trust they won’t take the piss! Plus they do blood biker discount so it’s a winner!!!

    Thanks for your help!

No worries. I was quoted 2 hours as well, but it took them nearly four hours. They only charged me for three though.

    My kit came with them.
I know how you feel right now as I was the same. Like I said it has transformed the bike for me. Let me know how you find it once you have the job done.

Ah ok…do you know what size they were? The bars say they’re 28mm but that doesn’t seem like a standard bar end option?? Sorry if I’m being thick!!

I’ll let you know how it goes!

@Wessa did the garage who fitted your kit have any issues with the switch gear fitting? Mine have just rung saying the bars a way too small at the ends, almost like the wrong bars for the kit.

No didn’t have any issues. I know on the web site you had to select the bars for heated grips if they were fitted and a different bar for no heated grips. Other than that no issues mate.
