    Hi Guys
Can anyone tell me how do you know if your quickshifter works both ways.
    I'm picking up a 2020 speedtriple 1050RS next week.
Never had a bike with a quickshifter so it's all new to me, any info I'd be grateful

    cheers

I believe it’s up and down if it’s the 2020 model with the updated tft screen.

    cheers jage.
    updated tft screen???
I'm buying from BMW dealer, so to double check should I stop off at a triumph dealer, just don't want to do the bike in before having fun trying the quickshifter to go down the gears.
Seems like I've got some trolling to do before picking bike up.

It's up and down on the RS (as stated by @Jage ) and the rs has a tft screen (not traditional "clocks".

    Morning Bassy.
It is an up and down QS.
BUT…I would still use the clutch on downshifts to take some load off of the engine. What this does is allow the QS to auto blip as you come down the box and the gears will just slip in lovely. You have to FULLY CLOSE the throttle as you do this. If your on the brakes the QS saves you having to blip the throttle yourself,
It takes a while to get used to not closing the throttle going up the box but it works brilliantly.
Enjoy the bike, I feel it’s the best road bike I’ve ever owned.

QS is not standard fitment on this model but was a free option at the time I bought my 2019.
Works for up and down changes but important on down changes to have throttle closed - an open throttle can over-ride the blipper and confuse the Rev matching function on down changes.
    System works well until . . . . It doesn’t!!!!
If you hit a false neutral whilst changing up on full throttle, you can and most likely will destroy your gearbox - search this forum for the discussion of this issue!!!!

I'm not getting the idea of a quick shifter. Am I in the minority by the fact that I enjoy changing gears the old fashioned way???
Plus my gearbox is the best change I've used in over 50years of riding.

I bought one recently for mine. It’s a bit of fun if you want to just blast forward but I still use the clutch 99% of the time. My one is up only and use the bike only for evening / weekend twisties so maybe it suits other riding more.

After reading some horror stories about wrecked gearboxes I thought not for me thanks. Might have a go on a dealers demo though :)

The QS works both up and down.

Although not as useful as cruise control, for you folks saying, “what use is that thing? Bike has a clutch blah blah blah…” it’s in the same category as CC.

Once you have CC, you won’t want to take a trip without it. The ability to set your speed at speed limit plus eight and not worry about it for 45 minutes, occasionally resting your right hand casually on your knee…. that is some good stuff.

QS is like that. You will ride SO much better on a track day with the up/down QS on the Speed Triple—it will flatter you and make you look better than you are. On the street, it’s fun and useful both up and down.

Also I’ve read the horror stories but have had zero issues with mine, including both on the street and on the track.

I'm sure they would be fun but the way I ride nowadays it would be wasted. I need heated grips and cruise more,

I always thought heated grips were for wimps until had some! Now they are as essential as a back wheel :grinning:

All of those bikes which IED'd their gearboxes were working fine . . . . right up until the point where they didn't!!!
I suspect some folks will use their QS routinely and never have an issue but . . . . . . it's a lottery and it only takes one full bore missed change to completely fubar your pride and joy.
