Ended up in the historic city of Durham itself. Both the Romanesque Cathedral and the Norman castle are situated above the river Wear, which loops around below them.

The old bridge is now only open to pedestrians

    Plenty of cafes and bars

Wow! Durham is beautiful and even from just photos has a really great feel, Steve. Ok, how old is that cathedral??

I hope you have good weather for bike night at the Angel. I also hope you'll do a bit of a report with, of course, photos. :)

Hi Sandi, yes Durham has a good feel to it and it's quite compact, including the market place. It also has a highly regarded and long established university.
The cathedral was built between 1093 and 1133 covering Norman, Romanesque, and Gothic Architectural styles

Promise I'll post pictures from the bike night

No bike night for me I'm afraid - forgot it was the other half's birthday so meal out instead.
Also the bike nights start time has been moved to 20.00 due to a "private function"

Bummer, Steve. :( I hope that at least it was you that remembered the other half's birthday before she reminded you.;) 20.00 is 8:00pm, right? That's a rather late start for a bike night so perhaps a meal out instead was better all the way around. But it is hard to beat a good bike night. :)

No worries Sandi, I had the card and the presents but just didn't connect the dates. :D
Sadly this bike meet is only once a month not weekly so I'll just have to wait now
Yes it was 8.00pm, I just used the 20.00 hours designation the organisers had in their Facebook post.
I forget that the 24 hour clock isn't generally in use in the States outside of the military. It's very common here - most timetables use it and most digital clocks are set to it.

Wasn't Durham featured in the Pink Panther theme tune?
