Has anyone done an engine flush before an oil change ? I'm changing the oil / filters on the Bonnie and thought an engine flush before could only be a good thing (clear oil ways and remove any sludge) What's your thoughts ??
I don't using a specific product but what I do is, (assuming the engine is thoroughly warmed through) first empty out the old oil; then refill with cheap stuff and allow the bike to tick-over in the open air for perhaps 15-20 mins; then empty and replace the oil filter; now refill with quality oil.
Did a full engine flush today, new filter and magnetic sump plug fitted, gotta say think it was easier with the flush as the oil seemed to be thinner and drained a lot quicker... Bike seems to be a lot quiter and smoother now...
I use Wynns engine flush every time I service the car, it's great stuff, I'll most likely use it on the twin too
It's nice to know that either Brits or Bikers still can take a serious thread topic and turn it in to bathroom humour. Personally I find the best way to flush is to either pull the chain, press the handle or push the button depending on the plumbing. Keep up the finest traditions and carry on
Hi Volksrat I probably would not have recommended it as I did this to a car of mine once and is released some of the hardened oil from the inside walls of engine and it migrated into the strainer of oil pump and in turn starved the engine of oil, is this flushing oil ok for the wet clutch??
Just sharing my bad experience of using engine flushing oil in a car engine that may or may not steer other members away from doing this after reading this post I am not saying this will happen to your bike but it is obviously a solvent and do not know if this can be used on motorcycle engines due to wet clutch.
Following your 'solvent' comment Peter, this is exactly why I don't use these products and favour using a std. motor oil for the "washing out".
TBH Ade I'm more concerned about what (debris) gets dislodged and what effect it has on seals, if this stuff really is a solvent.
Me too mate, then I store the old oil so I can treat any exterior wood in the future. Fence posts in particular.
Hi guys hope someone can help me I have access to some mobile super 3000 XE 5 W30 now question is can I use this to flush my bike out before refilling with the recommend oil. I would only run the bike with the mobile oil for 5 minutes or so just to remove any crud etc remaining in the engine then drop the oil and replace filter and put fresh oil in Thanks
Off course you can Noggin. All you're doing is washing out the interior of the engine. Let it tick over for 5-10 mins and empty it out.
