You are correct. I never once said me and the other bikes are in the right for the way we ride, only stated that the car was in the wrong for the way it crossed the line. I never say the way I ride is correct since it never is. Take that as you will. Merely stating the car was in the wrong does not mean we are in the right.
I must say I’m confused about turning right over a solid white line (or double white line for that matter). The rules must be different in SA because it’s perfectly legal in the UK.
It’s perfectly legal in the UK to exit a junction and cross a white line to turn right. The officer in the video even says it’s ok to turn right across a white line into premises. image from UK driving test.com
Yes, I agree entirely, but the intimation and discussion was that it is permitted to cross the solid white line to OVERTAKE a moving vehicle - which, in this country at least, is not permitted .... except for bicycles or slow moving vehicles such as horse drawn, etc.,, and only if it's safe and clear to do so. "You may cross the line if necessary, provided the road is clear, to pass a stationary vehicle, or overtake a pedal cycle, horse or road maintenance vehicle, if they are travelling at 10 mph (16 km/h) or less." A 'regular' overtake across a solid white line in the UK is a traffic offence - I'm married to an ex-police officer so I'm frequently reminded about the traffic laws and regulations. Trust me, I'm really not trying to get into a personal argument with you, or anyone else, or 'score points' on this but I wouldn't want anyone to think that the law is unclear or has changed. Solid white? Don't overtake in a single lane or cross it to overtake in free moving traffic. Well, don't if you want to avoid a fairly hefty fine and points .....
I think you may have misread my post that you commented on. It was about crossing a white line to turn right. Nothing about overtaking which of course is illegal except for some specific circumstances. I was also referring to Dark Riders “initial” post about a mate of his who ran into a car turning right over a solid white line. Not the one that started this thread. I hope that clears this up.
