I did three or four Europe trips on my Speed with nothing more then a Kreiga US 40. Worked great, never needed more.
Have decided to bin the hard luggage idea and go with the Kriega: I have a US30 and a US10. I have also bought a 15 litre Givi tank bag so that's luggage sorted. All I need now is a pillion seat... Thanks for all the input, much appreciated. We're firming up the route so will update a bit closer to the time.
Hi there! These are good and work great for mounting points. And, you can just fold them out of the way when not reqd. https://www.infinitymotorcycles.com...ayekPpehsTi4QkvHikoU-mho6kqc1bGBoCqGEQAvD_BwE
I went with the H&B sport rack on my Speedy RS. I looked at the other options but all required some degree of drilling etc and/or aren’t instantly removable. The only downside to the Sport rack is its weight limit is paltry and I couldn’t understand why as it uses the same mounts as the pillion seat. When you think about it, a pillion’s weight is always downwards on the seat; there is no leverage on the seat mounts at all. With something physically strapped to the rack, you have this additional leverage on the mounting points which is greater with increased weight and/or height of the luggage carried. The last thing you need is for the rear plastic seat mount to snap while riding - it could be very dangerous. I still went with the sport rack but my intention is to tie a Kriega or roll bag to the rack but also strap the luggage down to the rear footpegs and my rear grab rail so that there are no leverage forces on the rack itself which could cause it to break off. In this one respect, SW Motech rack and luggage solution is better but neither are ideal. I’m aware of the problem and how to tie down my luggage and so sport rack suits me but could bite someone badly if they simply overloaded it and strapped their luggage onto it directly with no further means of support.
1050r here. Not a tour as such, but planning on watching 24 hour endurance at Spa June bank holiday weekend for a few days trip. An old Oxford tailpack and need to buy a decent tank bag, Sw motech look nice but pricey. Any recommends?
Let’s goooo I did a 2,400 mile trip on mine last year (there’s a ride report in the Rideouts section with pics). It was ace. 25 liter Kriega, little tiny tail pack with tools and a spare pair of jeans. No problem; if anything I overpacked.
Sorry to hijack the thread, but I just got some of these to try on my 2014 Speedy and they seem brilliant despite being for the RS. As an aside @Ducatitotriumph do they fit an RS with the seat cowl or do you need the seat fitted? Cheers
Hi there, They do fit BUT when you pull the straps tight, it makes you wince when you use the seat cover as they seem to pull it up on the plastic of the cover. There seems (definitely is) to be more "give" with the seat. So, i'd definitely use the pillion seat instead tbh. And, think of the scratches......!!!!
This sounds like someone who still has a purchase in mind…..Just saying… And it’s not the Kriega securing straps…
I've used the Ventura luggage system on my Speed RS with a 50l bag Triumph Speed Triple 1050, S, RS (11-20) – Ventura (ventura-bike.com) A good system, you don't notice it and it doesn't move. I recommend getting the optional rain cover though.... I also use a Givi 15l tank bag with the tank lock system. Clips on and off in a couple seconds and doesn't sit on the tank, so won't damage the paint SOFT BAGS FOR MOTORCYCLES AND SCOOTERS XS307 TANKLOCK (givi.co.uk) T
Kriega US30 and an additional US10 purchased for my Assen trip. Needed the fixing straps and they were ordered yesterday and will be delivered today from Sportsbike Shop. Just deciding whether to fit a Puig screen or not…..@Ducatitotriumph, do you have any photos of your screen fitted?
I do but not the greatest pic. Screen is great and definitely worth it tbh. I'm in Budapest for the week so you could have borrowed mine for your trip. Back on Saturday if that helps? Kind of try before you buy type thing?
