    I do think tax on bikes is OTT, I pay just £30 a year for my 160 + bhp BMW car. Certainly the threshold between smaller capacity bikes and 600 plus cc machines. should be revised, say to 700cc plus, which would obviously allow 650 and 675cc bikes into the lower tax bracket,, but I don't think the odd dissenting voice in the wilderness will achieve anything sadly.

    As all large modern bikes now have a cat it would make more sense to tax them based on emmisions rather than the archaic way by cc. My ditchpump does over 60 mpg so the VED on that should be quite low. Things like small scooters that commuters use would I suspect be very low VED, something that would help emissions or do they not have a cat? And for anyone who says cars emit less because they carry more people how many cars do you see in rush hour with any passengers at all, let alone a car ful?

    I wouldn't mind if they filled in the boody potholes. One appeared near here recently that was breaking cars, and there's nother massive one on a small back road around here that's the size of a small fishpond. It's also on the outside of a 90 degree corner so to avoid it you have to be on the wrong side of the road. It's bad in a car but can be lethal on a motorcycle in the dark.

    You should try registration costs in Australia !
    WA is a lower rate and cost state !!
    Our Mitsubishi ASX costs us $800+ my Triumph America costs over $435 , that's ~ £390 & ~£215. Eastern states 25 years ago a 750cc+ was ~ $1,000 and that doesn't include third party insurance!(state by state) you had to find your own insurer ! People were paying over ~$1,500 in many cases

    I thought agricultural machinery was tax free? :p


    The new Street Scrambler, like most other Triumphs, is now Euro5 but will command the same tax rate as my 2012 ZZR1400, which is Euro3. Not sure what "Euro" spec (if any) my 24year old 4.2L diesel 4x4 is. Being pre 2001 it is taxed as a car over 1549cc and has no g/kg emission figure to meet other than a "visible smoke" test.

    The CO2 emissions on mine according to the V5 is 115g/km which would put it at £180 for the first year then £155 after that according to the new rates :eek:

    I suppose the way fuel prices have sky rocketed recently, the road tax is largely irrelevant., E5 fuel is around £1.70 a litre at the filling stations around this neck of the woods, but then we always did get ripped off living near the seaside. Even before the current troubles in Ukraine, vehicle fuel (Diesel and Petrol) was generally 5 or 6p a lire dearer here than further inland, York and the West riding. for example. I dread to think what it will now cost to fill the tank on my Tuono with E5, with its range of about 110 miles. 80 if I am over zealous with the throttle. :(

    As I work from home I only get to ride/drive my toys at the weekend, which means last year I paid .36p per mile in tax :oops:

    Maybe, but you paid a shitload of money in other taxes for them to sit there ready for when the weekend comes around.

    40% of it all goes to HMRC straight away, then theres council tax, VAT and finally £1,100 in car/bike tax. Got to be well over 50% of my total income goes to the Government every month.

    This kind of thing is state-dependent in the US. Socialist money pits like Kalifornia and MaSSachusetts charge more than lower tax states like Florida and Texas. One of several reasons a lot of people are moving out of tax and spend states and to more fiscally conservative ones.

    Hey, but at least in those socialist money pits the roads are in good order, right? …:joy:

    My sons girlfriends car is a little 3 cylinder 750cc and she pays fuck all road tax, there's something wrong somewhere.

    Pretty sad in NZ too, with majority of the registration being the accident levy :sob:. Cars are based on safety rating, so new cars are inexpensive, but bikes :eek:

    I can't even find the costs of yearly fees and taxes on motorcycle registration currently in NSW !
    NSW government site only states something like $67 year car's being $68 , but that is only the fee payable to Government to cover the paperwork ??!!

    That was another problem. I'm not sure how that crack happened. This pothole just damaged the tyre but it was a hell of a thump when I hit it in the dark. It was up near the Fox House, if you know that.

    On the subject of pot holes, the roads around carmarthenshire where I live are really well maintained, pembrokeshire not bad either, but I know when I've crossed into Neath Port Talbot, Powys or Swansea without even having signs as the roads are pretty awful.
