    Hi All, traded the Tigersport 1050 in for a Tiger 1200 Desert on the weekend. Hopefully I won't regret it! I absolutely LOVED the 1050 but it was feeling a bit aged, but rode sooo nice..

    Good looking bike! After 26,000 kilometers in 18 months, despite frequent Corona-related restrictions, I can only congratulate you on your decision. You will see how pleasant driving will be, especially on long tours. Apart from that, the TIGER can also be quite sporty if you "tease" him. But beware: at speeds of +190 km/h, you should not have another piece of luggage with you away from the pannier system. The rear end becomes too light due to the resulting lift and it can be really dangerous if the TIGER gets "out of hand"!

    I've only ridden it 70 odd miles back from the showroom so far and that was with all the luggage fitted so can only go by that experience at the mo.
    Firstly, the 1050 was for me the most perfect bike I have ever ridden in terms of comfort, handling , power, looks etc (2016 Matt Black/fluro yellow version) I just wanted some more modern technology and something that could cope with some light trails etc.
    The most obvious con, is the weight, the 1200 is a big old girl but hides her weight well while on the move. The comfort, i'd say was on par with the 1050 which had the standard seat, whereas the 1200 Desert has the comfort gel seats. My ride home was a bit tainted by the handling. When I went around a corner it felt like the front wanted to wash out, but lI ater discovered that the front tyre was slightly squared off and worn on the edges. Hopefully a new tyre will resolve this.
    The technology on the 1200 is amazing and the engine sooo smooth. The quickshifter/blipper is one of the best I've ever tried and I love the tft dash. The electric screen is also a nice feature, although this was wobbling around all over the place on the way home, but I discovered there was a loose bolt, so a nice easy fix.
    Not having to worry about a chain and all the muck that goes with it is nice, and I think its a good looking bike, especially in the sandy gold Desert Edition colour scheme. Is it as nice to look at as the 1050? I'm not so sure. All in all, I am happy with my purchase, but kind of miss my 1050, I just need to get out on it and rack up some miles. ....once I get the tyres sorted.

    Thanks for that. My Tiger is coming up three years old and I have been considering whether I will change it or keep it. Like you I love the ride and the triple engine on the 1050 and if I’m honest the extra tech on the 1200 (or any of the new bikes) does not really interest me that much. Not having to do chain maintenance is a draw, I’m not sure which way I will go ;)

    Some people told me to go for the new Tiger 900 instead as it was similar money but I wasn't keen on dropping about 30bhp from the 1050 which is a similar weight. Instead, I have gained about 15 bhp but a shed load of extra weight also. So I'm guessing the power to weight ratio is probably better on the 1050.

    Has anyone got any experience with the Bluetooth module with the smaller TFT dash like what I have on my 2020 Tiger.
    I didn't even realise they existed until this weekend. I thought that tech was only available on the newer 7" TFT dashes.
    I've been told you can make calls, have caller id and have music etc as well as turn by turn satnav, but wonder if it's worth the £300ish outlay. I already have a Garmin satnav which has a lot more detail and info, but it is an extra bit of kit to fit to the bike whereas the new module would include everything on the dash. Mmmm...decisions decisions.

    You can find some past posts on this topic in the forum. There are always technical highlights and malfunctions with the system. Also the use of Beeline is described. I do without all these "problem areas" and instead use an outdoor smartphone on the bike for my purposes. You can get some of those devices under your mentioned price!

    Owners have been waiting for this on the Tiger 1200 for years and I think most gave up. There is very little screen space to do much and I can't imagine you are going to get your value from it. If your phone is already connected to your headset you have that covered, if you have a Sat Nav you have that covered, If you run an Apple phone I almost guarantee the connection will be almost useless (an Apple Bluetooth implementation is to blame). I think this technology is a solution for a problem nobody had, and I like gadgets! Ask yourself this question. Did you ever do the three way connection between your Garmin, headset and phone? If the answer is no then why start now? Before Apple changed their Bluetooth implementation I used to have my iPhone connected to my Tom Tom via Bluetooth along with my headset. I could see caller id's, messages and all that stuff. It was really just one big distraction while I should of been concentrating on the road.
