I think you’re correct in having the metalwork exposed all the way round the seat base, I preferred the 3 shape, but I didn’t realise it had a hard plastic arse.

DP, I'm sorry my man all incorrect, although you did remind me that I have a painted jacket that needs to go live with someone else (as I am a bit too big boned)

I did it as it was a sort of link to our Tigers. Although it is a copy of actual flying jackets used by the Flying Tigers in WW2. Walt Disney designed the tiger picture. I've since taken the HA (nude red woman) emblem off.

So, today I stood around in the garage wondering what to do about the seat. I'd like to get towards a solution that I can apply to other builds so I have a known direction in the future.
I also am trying to go for number 4 but am going for a cowling on the rear rather than a leather cover that I wont be able to make. So I stuck the battery and coils tray back in a stared at it again for some time.

    1.jpg

Then with a flash, I leapt into action and bent a bar to suit. A bit more difficult than you think I'll have you know.

    2.jpg

I think I need a base to work from so the flat bar is bent and cut, in place to allow it to sit down out of the way.

I then spot welded on a tray as a base for the cowling, seat. But, of course some had to be cut out for the mudguard.

    4.jpg

I kept it a gnat's todger away from the subframe, to allow either a steel (if I can bend a flat into shape) or a fibreglass cowling made on a former, to fit in there. The idea is to paint the same theme from the tank down onto the cowling.

    5.jpg

I can hopefully then just have flat leather seat bits attached to this seat pan. I've still got to think through the front part around coils and battery etc. But I think I'll be ok as I'll add an external charging plug.

    6.jpg

It sits down nicely and had to be cut in a few places to get passed the strut mounts. Happy with this so far, I think....Over

I like the jacket. Strangely came to me you probably did one/some, with your talent for tanks/helmets. The “no cigar” brought the humidor guess.
Seat pan l beginnings look better than the plastic base

What is it with all this cold weather? I'll have to write to Jim, oh no can't do that these days. Finishing off the base with a front loop and tabs that slot under the flat plate

    3.jpg

Then a strip welded round that'll allow the seat base to be attached to. I didn't want to put the plate right across as I've had batteries short out before. I still need to weld some tabs to the frame to allow some bolting down.

    4.jpg

    5.jpg

The plan now is to lay some cling film, cooking foil over everything and make up a fibre glass tray. The fibre glass will be formed over 'humps' where the openings are to give some breathing space. I'll drill some appropriate holes and mould in some fixing bolts. I'll then re-shape the seat foam I already have (in 4 above) and stick to the fibreglass. Stretch on the existing cover and where's my Auntie. Hours and ten cups of tea it took me to decide that. Crack on Chaps (and Chapesses) :).....Over....

Oh, and I'll take the jacket to the jumble sale on 19th Feb, size XL if anyone fancies it.

Is the item in the box the original item that was delivered in the box or have you swapped it out for a humorous ruse and put a 10mm socket in there?

    Front mud guard ?

Have you a design in mind for your tank? How do you decide, at the start of a build (doing a duplicate of the original etc), during the build (flash of inspiration type) or once it’s come together?

    Unfortunately not a mudguard.

I've done literally hundreds of designs for others when I was doing it properly (creating remembrance WW1 and WW2 helmets and the like) but I've always struggled doing stuff for myself. I have got an alloy Trackmaster tank on order for this one (if they actually get round to it) or it'll be an export tank as existing. Simple and traditional designs are best IMO, so a go faster stripe/s and a large vintage Triumph I think on here.

It's not bikes but this is what I used to do (look away now if not interested):)
