Good morning all, I am new around here. I just traded in my ‘16 Honda NC750X (Non DCT) for a 2018 Street Triple RS with 18k kilometres on the clock. I am beyond excited to take delivery of it, which should be this weekend! The ST has been one of my dream bikes for a couple years, so swinging a leg over my own one is definitely a bucket list item! However with a new bike comes new challenges, what are some things I should be prepared to deal with? Regards, Jordan
Sorry. Couldn't resist. Welcome to the forum. There's not really much (that I'm aware of) that's a known or even common frailty on the later Streets. Keep religiously to the service intervals - especially the shim check - and even add your own oil changes in between if you're a hard rider. Oil and filters are, fundamentally, cheap insurance so frequent changes are worth the minimal effort and expense. I've yet to read or hear of anyone having ridden a decent Street Triple and not been impressed. They are capable of much more than their appearance might suggest and, in the right hands, are very definitely able to run with the big boys - check out the contributions on here from your fellow countryman "Dark Rider". Enjoy that bike and be safe.
Hi Jordan. Welcome to the forum. I doubt you'll find may negative comments about the Street Triple. Mine's an older one and even that's still a great bike. Be prepared for hours of great riding.
Hi all and thanks for the warm welcome! Ecstatic about joining the triumph community! Definitely something special about their bikes. In the running for my next bike was the ST, MV Brutale 800rr, Duc Monster 821 and Yam MT09. The Triumph is by far the most enjoyable to ride. Doesn’t have the rush of power like the MV or the hooligan factor like the Yam but it clicked with me and just felt right. Plus it came with an akra system
JordaN B Welcome to the family. Good luck with the bike. Just a brotherly word take it steady till you get the feel for it. And do let all the inmates know what you think. And picture would be nice so hit the upload a file button bottom right corner and keep us all smiling. Joe.
Wifey has a 2009 in a (non-standard) white and I have a 2010 in a very standard (and VERY lovely) Tornado red. I've since put TORs cans on Wifey's and ARROWs on mine! We don't have any very close neighbours. They ARE the dog's dangly bits.
Those are some GORGEOUS machines! Now I just need to get my lady a matching one too!! I have never seen that type of stand before. Where did you get those?
Don’t have decent photos, but will post some on here on Friday when I take delivery. I’ll be sure to take it easy for a while. Already have a ride planned with some buddies for the next day, so I’ll post some stuff from that. Hopefully I can get a few people envious of our South African roads and weather!
Thanks. Yep, they ARE wonderful machines to both look at and ride! Start looking for one for your lady now - otherwise she might just steal yours. The stands were designed and made here in England and are produced by a company called 1Jac. There's a long story behind the concept and production but the upshot of the story is that the designer/maker of the original was not allowed to file a patent on the design so there are a number of copies out there - many of far eastern origin - though my personal experience of trying to save money by buying a 'copy' resulted in the products being returned and the original (and IMHO best) being in my garage! As far as I know, 1Jac is the only maker to provide a lifetime guarantee. https://www.1jac.com/
Hi Jordan and welcome to the forum, the Street Triples are a fantastic machine and handle like they are on rails. I have owned a few now, from the 675 to the 765RS, the early round headlight models have a bit of a cult following, the 675 models had a slightly snatchy throttle, this could easily be sorted out though. Keep to the servicing schedules (either home or dealer service). I swapped a Speed Triple for a Street Triple after testing one out, I then gave one of my sons my then 675R and bought a 765RS new in 2019, I then traded it for another new 2020 765RS the following year, the 765RS can hold with most on the back roads, the only thing to note is the RS has the suspension set on the stiff side from the factory, it is one of the easiest models to set the suspension up for a softer more refined ride. I have uploaded a few photos of some of the Street Triples I owned, my current one is Ice Silver.
@Iceman makes a very valid point about suspension on the Striple and it's something I forgot to mention in my (slightly more serious) post about what to look out for. You will almost certainly benefit from having the sag set to your riding weight from the off. Find a race or specialist suspension shop, or take it to a track day where there's usually suspension techs around doing stuff like this for beer money. Both mine and my wife's bikes would try to throw you out of the saddle on bumpy roads until I had the suspension checked and sag set and that's not uncommon, I gather, with the Street. Both of our bikes are now vastly improved and handle impeccably, despite being standard models without the adjustability or sophistication of the R models. That said, neither of us is exactly 'hooligan tackle' oriented in normal road behaviour. Well, she's not ..............
Greetings, Jordan, and welcome to the forum! I can feel your excitement at the prospect of taking delivery of your Street Triple this weekend. And I'm excited for you. Nothing like a new bike to make one feel like a little kid again. We'll be looking forward to some photos when you have your new baby. Enjoy that Street Triple! And the forum, too.
You have some good taste I bet she sounds wicked with that Yoshi system! I will have a look at the suspension set up, haven’t dialled it in for my weight yet and I can confirm that it tries to throw me off on bumps. The road feel is otherworldly though!
