We had a weeks two-up tour to the south of France some years ago, but now that mrs. V has got her license we can do it properly. As she doesn't want to do long motorway hauls we opted towing the bikes to our chosen base, and do day trips from there. An added bonus is that this way we can take the dog. We booked the last ten days of May.
Our base will be in the Vosges, which is a great area for day trips - lovely hills and gorgeous scenery. For a first trip for her this is also good - not as challenging as the high alps, but enough to learn for a novice rider. We've booked a two person gite at https://www.giteslecreux.com/

Very much looking forward to it!

That sounds like a great plan, @Vulpes, and a terrific adventure to anticipate to tide you over through the dark days of winter. And if sounds like a perfect trip for Mrs. V's first solo tour. I'll bet your sweet pooch will be happy to be part of your travels, too. I always enjoy your rideout and trip reports and I'm really looking forward to this one with Mrs. V on her Street Triple! :)

Nice on Wim. The Vosges was my first tour on the ZZR1200. We stayed in Colmar, definitely deserves a visit. Plenty of good roads, Riquewihr was my favourite village. Would recommend a day trip into Strasbourg too if you haven't been before, lovely around the cathedral and the tanners quarter. Take the train maybe. Je vous souhaite une bonne route! :)

Cheers Alan. Yep, Colmar is pretty, I've stayed there before. Beautiful old town centre. We're only some 45ish miles from there, so definitely take the mrs. there. I've not been to Strasbourg before - well worth contemplating a visit.
I thought the area would be good for a first trip, as the roads as you say are good and not too challenging for a novice rider.
With the bikes on a trailer we can easily drive there in a day, only 400 odd miles.

Cheers Andy. They apparently do really good food on the premises if you don't want to drive anywhere. The proprietors seem really friendly. They even volunteered to take the dog for a walk if we were to be away for a whole day.

Thanks Sandi. It sure looks like a good plan, and yes, the wee dog will be extremely happy to come along! I'm glad you enjoy my little write-ups - not on par with yours, but I enjoy doing them!

I booked one of these for our journey today. Looks like excellent quality, and it has a lockable box at the front for gear.
