    Hi all

Hope you're all good, I'm looking to ID a bike....

My dad toured the alps in the late 40s he doesn't remember the model and i only have a couple of grainy images available. Can anyone help ID it as i'd like to find out more about the bike and maybe buy one in time??

BSA A10 gold flash as a guess, WXB830 is on a Porsche now.

Thanks Darkman, Dad was adamant it was a Triumph. I'm not a bike man so assuming BSA are not the same. He said it went like a rocket and got a lot of attention whenever he left it anywhere he'd get quite a crowd around it..

That’s because they have all slipped on the oil leak and couldn’t get up!
Only joking sir! I too thought it was a bsa because of the tank. Maybe an email to dvla for a pointer?

I see you are local to me as well, Its very hard to see in the photo's but the round badge on the tank and the front Ariel brake shared with BSA are the reason i believe it to be a BSA. A pic for you to compare :)

I'd also have gone with A10 at a guess, but almost certainly not Triumph. The panniers are Rodarks; the bags are WD and the suitcase is probably direct from a mail order catalogue - remember those? :)

    Great period pictures, for sure.

Thanks Adie, the pictures are great, I only got my hands on them the other day. These were taken shortly after the WW2 he travelled around Europe. I hoped if I started a thread something would come to light. He thinks it was a Triumph but could be confused as the BSA and Triumph look similar..

    Thanks for the knowledge.

    Welcome!

Definitely a BSA, I reckon - you can see the '3 rifles' transfer on the toolbox cover. But I'd have put the timing in early '50s rather than late '40s ... certainly from the bike. It would be interesting to know when that registration was first issued. DVLA might tell you?

@darkman, you know far more than me about these things but having done a quick check the A10 didn't start production until 1950 so would be too late for his adventure.

I've no doubt he did the tour - and on that bike - but suspect it was a little bit later than his recollection.

I can empathise, there are times I can barely remember my own name, and I drive my wife absolutely insane when she starts asking about something we did maybe only last year and I have completely and utterly forgotten the whole thing!
