I like Old Fashioned's but only order them now and again while I'm out. I was inspired by @Fork Lock's recent post to try my hand at making one at home. Here's this evenings cocktail out in the backyard accompanied by some roasted cashews. This one is made with Sazerac Rye.
Same time, same station… different cocktail. Tonight it was a gin gimlet with Hendricks gin accompanied by sea salt and rosemary marcona almonds from Trader Joe’s.
Been celebrating a friends 50th birthday in town… usual crap beers, so I stuck to Guinness… I got home and freshened up with this gorgeous Elvis juice…
The wife asked me to pick up a bottle of Bacardi Limon Rum. Seems she saw a fruity drink recipe on the interweb made with it and wanted to try it. I got a bottle of the stuff. That was two weeks ago and it's been sitting in the liquor cabinet, untouched. I thought I'd try it tonight since I'm here all alone, except for the dog, the three remaining neons and one catfish in the aquarium. She's baby sitting the granddaughter. Well, it's nice! No need to mix it with anything. Just pour it over ice. A bit sweet and kind'a like lemonade with a kick. I'm liking it! I suppose I'll have to replace the bottle since I'm about 1/2 way through it and no sign of stopping now.
There is lots of "work" today for me and my wife! I´m just kidding! I saw this "MOET-Tower" at the entrance of our restaurant we visited yesterday evening! This is the right photo:
This evenings cocktail out on the back patio--a Hendrick's "Orbium" gin martini with Vya vermouth and a lemon twist.
Had a nip of this delicious single malt this evening. It was gifted to us by a friend who came to our home for dinner a few months ago. Outstanding!
It was new to me, too, @DCS900. I don't remember how our friend, Dave, said he knew about it but he's a big whiskey and scotch guy as is a good friend of his. So they do seem to find some esoteric stuff. It's nice to have friends you can ask for recommendations--and who sometimes just bring one of their recommendations and leave it in your cupboard.
Hawkshead blended English whisky, over large ice block with fine lime shaving… served with fresh, homemade chocolate cake, with rich, dark ganache. Don’t sound right, but is!
Got some friends coming over for some scran, so trying out some Oktoberfest beers being sold discounted at Booths. Bloody good it is too..,
Which of the two do you prefer, DCS? Do you have a favorite Oktoberfest beer or one you'd highly recommend? Asking for a friend. Well, not really. Asking for me.
Hi @Sandi T , of the two, the darker “Hacker Pschorr” won out on flavour. The lighter beer is nice, but I could savour the first all year without complaints!
I think I mentioned before, the wife does crafting. She makes some nice stuff. She had an outdoor show today at a restaurant a few miles from home. I went to help her break down her tent after the show. 34 degrees and a stiff breeze. I was chilled to the bone when I got home. Second glass of sangria. Feeling a little better.
Sounds lovely, @Yorkshireman! I’m curious about a couple things in your photo. Firstly, what is etched on your glass and are those whiskey stones I see in there? Secondly, what’s the scoop on the book?
