I am considering fitting a dynojet power commander 3 to improve performance and a techtronics quick shift kit to my 2006 speed 4 600, has anyone got this fitted already to their bike or any help and advice would be good as these are not bits of cheap kit,Thanks.

Ho no chaps, knew this would be a stinker:( who's got a quick shift and what's your opinion would it cause gearbox faults ?

will be looking tho,to further my knowledge,if nout else

Thanks Sprintdave for your reply to my posting:), the Dynojet power commander 3 has been recommended to me by a tuning company in Colchester to improve performance and a surging issue I have on even throttle due to can and air filter change (so this maybe the only route I have ?) and the Techtronics quick shift also came highly recommended by same tuning company its function is a mechanical rod/sensor from foot shift which is then wired to a its control box that is then hard wired to engine electricals the function of it I am lead to believe is that it kills engine momentarily on gear shifts so no need to use clutch lever, I have never know any one that has had one fitted to their bike but I am sure I have seen members post on here about fitting them I live in hope that some one can enlighten me before buying a expensive mistake, us boys do like to have something a bit different on our bikes:) the commander at home has been notified and questioning the costs my answer I am feeling a bit of stiffness to the joints of my hand so will not need to use clutch lever making my bike a semi automatic:)

Hi Peter, I will comment on the fuelling issue as I know nowt about quick shifters.

As you will know all fuel injected engines - bikes and cars - work on the basis of the ECU receiving information from a variety of sensors and using tables of values to time the fuel injector pulses.

The standard table of values obviously is calibrated to operate optimally with the std. engine characteristics of inlet and exhaust set-ups. If these elements are changed, then the table values need to be changed. This can be achieved by:

    1. Experienced tuners re-writing the values in line the test bench rolling road results; or

    2. "Strap-on" devices such as the Power Commander range of products which install between the sensors and the ECU, to alter the information the ECU receives to "fool" it into altering the bike's fuelling.

    Pro's and cons:

    1. Method 1 will ensure excellent fuelling without the need to purchase extra kit, and it permanent. This requires Triumph specific diagnostic kit such as TuneECU and the knowledge of how to use them.

    2. Method 2 could be considered as temporary as no factory parts are altered. So if you chose to return the bike to standard configuration you merely unplug the Power Commander and re-install any std. parts that were replaced by performance items.

Both methods require expert mechanics and rolling road test benches.

Thanks Dave have you got your monies for house sell yet ? a bike for you must be looming nearer surely, thanks for all the useful information, so I have another option of asking a Triumph dealer to set up engine for me ? I have been in touch with MSS Performance in Colchester, Essex a dealer for power commander that can also fit the quick shift as well at the same time and then dyno the bike but before I do this I am going to change my rear sprocket from a 45 to a 48 tooth to give my bike a bit more torque, my speedo is driven from front wheel so will not alter my speedo reading doing this sprocket change but I am not sure about the quick shifter:confused: anyway always nice hearing from you Dave, hope all is going well for you,Regards Peter.

Cheers mate. When I said a specialist to do the tuning I wasn't meaning the Triumph dealer do the work. I have never come across a dealer who has the specialist knowledge for that type of work.

Hi Peter - I had a street Triple R as a courtesy bike with a quick shift fitted - you are correct, there is no need to use the clutch or more importantly, ease off the throttle when changing up. It makes for very fast acceleration!

And I thought you were the most likely to know about a quickie :D
Thanks Steve this is the feedback I am looking for, I guess it will take a bit of getting use too,did you get any gear change snatch in not letting off the throttle or any problems changing through gears being smooth or lurching any gear crunching? can quick shift be used down through the gears ? would you consider having one ? being as you have experienced using this set up.

June must be the most expensive time to buy a bike, will you only be looking for bike when you have funds from house or actively looking now in mind of a giving a holding deposit ?

First and only time I have used one. The guy at the Triumph dealers said to use the clutch initially until I was "up the road" a bit. I was a bit wary of using it at first but the change is so smooth and seamless I was soon using it all the time - no snatching or crunching and it soon became quite natural. Only works on the up shift.
Would I get one? If I rode a Street Triple or similar style of bike then yes - on the Tiger probably not!

Peter, I have been looking, drooling, cursing and swearing for the last 4 months !!!!!! But I won't commit to a purchase until I know I've been wedged up.

Been to the new house this morning, cementing a gap in the floor where the wall used to be.

Hi Peter, i've only ever riden one bike with a quickshifter it was the s1000r you could only upshift with it and when you did you had to have the throttle pinned as it doesn't work properly if you roll the throttle off,i'm sure you can get them where you can downshift also, but maybe they are more expensive

So your not ready to move into your new house yet as you are making a few changes and this costs money even doing it yourself the new house is not giving you much time to think about a bike at moment anyway when the money is in the bank when house sale you may in a better bargaining position to get a good deal, is it going to be a Tiger then ??

Thanks Dougie for your comment about quick shifter the idea is to to make faster gear changes on acceleration so did not feel it would work on down shifts as well but thought I would ask Steve the question as I was not sure, price of this is £431.99 for the quick shifter + £99.00 labour I have to find out from them if this is the rod shifter or button shifter type.

Re the new house - knocked down the wall between the lounge and the kitchen (currently on 'making good' phase); Wend is decorating the lounge; I'm tidying electrics that were in the wall, then putting in a new kitchen. After that we'll be moving in.

Re bikes - I'm thinking about them all day, every day mate. Just been to have a look at one - Triumph of course. Have I decided what it'll be? I really couldn't say ;););););).
