Thought I'd done myself in this morning, was brushing my gnashers when a sneeze came out of nowhere.

The short sharp intake of breath just before the sneeze meant I sucked most of the damn toothpaste in my mouth down my throat and into my lungs. Strewth that hurt, felt like I'd been stabbed in the throat and my chest was on fire.

Couldn't swallow, couldn't cough, could barely breathe and what breath I could get hurt on the inhale and the exhale. Thought I was going down and was stood over the toilet with thick strings of drool hanging out of my mouth.

Then my chest heaved and out it came, bloody nora, it hurt even more getting rid of it than it did breathing the damn stuff in. Throats still sore now and the pain in my chest lasted for two hours and my eyes are still watering.

Not exactly how I planned to start my day and thankfully I didn't have to be anywhere.

So yeah, toothpaste, it's f***ing dangerous, don't breath it ;)

When I brush my teeth just before getting into bed I'm careful to swallow as little as possible 'cos it irritates my throat and I end up coughing intermittently for the next half hour or so. I find some pastes are worse than others. In the past I've used tooth paste for buffing in new paintwork when I had no compound or Tcut to hand and it did much the same job so there must be some abrasive agent present.

Yes bet it hurt like hell. I use the proenamel not as vicious. Never swallow just swill round my mouth after brushing the spit it out.

Well, a day later and it seems there's no ill effects, did cough a lot last night but that's calmed down today.

Just a stupid thing but could really mess up your day if you had something planned, couldn't have ridden the bike in that state for instance.

Not that I'm going to ride anyway, council have been chucking bloody salt about already and thats a no no with my shiny Bonnie.

Yeah it's about this time of year I develop longings to pack my panniers, ride down to Portsmouth, get the Ferry to France, ride south and end up somewhere near Seville for the next four or five months. Just don't think the missus would be ecstatic when I got back though.:eek:

Toothpaste is universally used by gunsmiths when restoring shotgun actions, no wonder it whitens teeth

I put toothpaste on my pancakes when I'm out of maple syrup.

Seriously though, it's abrasive. I have used it to polish gun parts. leaves them with a fresh, clean scent.

There's a lot of bicarbonate of soda ! There's the burning / burnishing action explained ! Not heaps as that would be a bit unhealthy , but more than enough to cause heavy coughing up action if it went too far down the throat !!
I have as soon as my brush hit's the back teeth , everytime !?

I find using my rifles jag, bronze brush and mop with a good quality solvent and gun oil brings my teeth up lovely.
