A "penicillin cocktail", Aaron? What that?

@Sandi T it's a riff on a whiskey sour, with ginger and a float of islay scotch. It's definitely not my favorite, but I find it intriguing enough that I make one now and then.

That actually sounds pretty good, especially for a cold winter's evening. We do have a few of those here in the southern AZ desert. ;) But I might forgo the Islay scotch. I'd go through so little of it that I'd have to put the remains of the bottle in my will, I'm afraid.

Yah, I don't think the drink suffers much from the absence of the islay. It loses a touch of up-front punch, but I'd say that it's arguably a better drink for it, because the peat tends to overwhelm the rest of everything, in anything but the thinnest of floats.

I've made it both with and without the islay smidge, and I'd say it's a decent drink either way :)

When I do include the islay in the drink, I tend to mix it in the shaker with the rest of the ingredients, and that mellows out the peat somewhat.

@Sandi T my goto drink for cold evenings has always been a hot toddy :)

I like the flavor profile of rum, lemon and honey much better than medicinal bandaid and scorched bog-bottom.

    Just sayin...

I do like a hot toddy as a go to drink on cold evenings, Aaron. :yum Perhaps I'll just stick with that and continue to drink my single malt neat. :)

I’m a big fan of Sierra Nevada’s beers, DCS. Especially their IPAs. :yum:) My best girlfriend and her husband have family in Chico where the original brewery is located. They’re the ones that turned us on to Sierra Nevada’s beers.

It’s the sorta thing I’d rather have on draft/tap than a can, but it was nice enough all the same! :)

Bourbon old fashioneds...again. I'd say I was just a creature of habit, but I do like them. Kinda' labor intensive to make, but worth it.

Semi-crummy weekend weather-wise. On and off rain, chill wind. Replaced all (six) of the halogen floodlights around El Rancho Fork Lock with LEDs. Nice! 24 to 40 watts as opposed to the previous 300 watt halogen monsters ($$ burners!). Brighter, whiter light.
Supposed to be nice tomorrow. Sunny, high in the low 60's. I deserve a break. Riding!

Which ryes do you like, @sikatri? When I can afford them as a splurge (or if they are gifted to me...even better), two of my favorites are Angel's Envy and High West's "Rendezvous Rye". I always appreciate hearing what others like and recommend.

This evening I made this Manhattan with Knob Creek Rye, Vya sweet vermouth, Angostura bitters, a Luxardo cherry, and a lemon twist. :yum
