I’ve got the 2020 Street triple RS and love it but there’s just one thing that really irks me, the lag on the throttle! Has anyone else experienced this? I initially thought it was the play in the grip, which I fixed with a spacer. That seemed to help but I just get this unresponsive rev when the throttle is blipped. Dealership say it’s the fly by wire but sure that should be as responsive as a direct cabled throttle? I use the bike for commuting and really notice this at low speeds, when filtering through traffic. It even causes the bike to just cut out sometimes too. If no one has been experience the same issue, I will endeavour to take it back to dealership and get them to investigate further. Cheers

Hi Nick, it sounds to me that the issue is the "ride by wire", the dealership can check your machine for any software updates and install them if required. I am a little puzzled when you mention "blipping the throttle" as the 2020 model has the quickshifter/blipper, so you can change down clutch less instead of using the clutch and blipping the throttle. The twist grips on these models have a certain amount of slack and are designed that way, there should be no need to add any spacers, indeed adding anything to the grip could potentially jam the throttle. The ride by wire system works by sending information to the machines EMC, this is a sophisticated system, it works within milliseconds, as mentioned all it should require is a software update. I have had both the 19 and 20 models with no issues regarding throttle response. Hope this helps and ride safe all.

Hey, thanks for the input. I get what you’re saying but it just doesn’t feel/sound right. When I’m using the blip, it’s more a habit I’ve got into and as I mentioned, I commute through London, so a courteous blip to make drivers aware of your presence is sometimes needed. I know about the quick shift and clutchless down shift but I don’t often use them when I’m riding through town. I think I need to revisit the dealership and ask them to actually take it out. I have a feeling that they’ll just say it’s fine and there nowt wrong. What happened to good old direct cable throttle, where you’re in control of throttle input, not a computer! I’ll keep you all posted on how it all goes. Cheers

Is it a rider mode you are in?
Set them back to default and try as one of them could be edited and actually made worse.

Just on the road mode. Might try a default reset and see what happens. Cheers

Hi Nick as mentioned by another forum member you can try different "modes" these alter the mapping and throttle response, the road "sport mode" for example alters the traction control level and fuelling, the rider mode allows you to customise your own settings, personally I have never put mine in rain mode, even when riding in heavy rain, I do switch to road mode though, as you know you can change the modes whilst riding, it is quick and hassle free and does not distract you when doing so. Let the forum know how you get on.

    Hi Nick,
My name is Paul and I am from Melbourne, Australia and have recently purchased a brand new Street Triple R from City Triumph here in Melbourne. I am experiencing the same problem that you have described with my bike. I absolutely love the bike, but this issue is really annoying me.

I picked up the bike at the end of November 2022 and have now done just over 1000 kms on it. I have the bike booked in for the first service on the 3rd January 2023 with Peter Stevens Motorcycles in Dandenong, which is my local Triumph dealer, so hopefully they can get it sorted out for me.

I experience the same issue with throttle response when shifting down gears and blipping the throttle manually. The engine simply doesn't respond to small or quick inputs from the throttle.
In response to the "Iceman" regarding the auto blipper, the problem is exactly the same when downshifting with the quickshifter.
The engine simply doesn't respond to small or quick inputs from the quickshifter or the throttle.

This didn't happen when I first picked up the bike, it started to appear at around the 600km mark, or 2-3 weeks into the ownership.
Something to note here, being that this is obviously not evident on all Street Triples because I test rode a 2019 model at the dealership which didn't have this issue and also a 2018 model selling on the private market which also showed no signs of this problem.

If I were to have had this issue with an older bike that had a throttle cable, I probably would have expected it to be caused by an inlet manifold leak or something similar causing a problem with the air/fuel ratios. Unfortunately, with the ride by wire system on these bikes, it could be any number of things.

To say that this is just a problem with the ride by wire, is an absolutely unacceptable response. There are many vehicle manufacturers that use this technology without any issues.

I will update this post once I get feedback from the Triumph dealership in the coming days.

Any thoughts or comments would be welcome.

    Cheers, Paul
