Hi fancied joining the forum as I have never owned a Triumph and am considering the Thruxton R or RS. I previously owned several Yamaha R6’s, an XT660 followed by KTM 990 Superduke. Unfortunately my riding came to a grinding halt excuse the pun when a mechancial fault caused my front brake to lock on my Superduke sending me over my handle bars on a motorway. It took several painstaking years to get the bike forensically examined and find the cause. Anyway I digress. Once bitten twice shy as they say. Hoping to get some real life data on the Thruxton and if I purchase one become a regular contributor to the forum. I’ve spent a decent amount of time reading up on the R and there are a couple of things I would love to understand more about Stalling issues, plus wiring looms being too tight. Riding position I will gauge for myself when I eventually test drive one.
Timboo Welcome to the family. There was a couple of small niggles earlier but Triumph promptly put those right especially the wiring. Basically they are great bikes and loads of fun and recognised by all. Joe.
Thanks thats what I am hoping to conclude as no other bike comes close looks wise for me. Is there a more problematic year of bike to avoid. Been reading some of the stalling posts on here and there seems to be different factors from a cap to ecu map etc

I love the green colour lovely bike you have. I quite fancy a white one as i always wear a white helmet. No interest in a nose cone fairing. Some good deals out there on 2017 R at the mo which makes me almost ignore the rs. I am really looking forward to trying one out.
Welcome to the forum. I still miss my thruxton R, superb bike! Never had any of the stalling issues with mine, though I did have on a tiger 800!
Greetings, @timboo, and welcome to the forum! I had a 2016 Thruxton R and loved it. I got a wild hair a few years ago and traded it for a Speed Triple RS which I also love. But of all the bikes I've sold or traded, the one I'd most like to have back in my garage is that Thruxton R. I'm a cafe racer fan and have been since before I even knew what that style bike was called. I never once had a stalling issue with my Thruxton but did have one safety recall that had to be addressed. A wiring harness issue that the dealership promptly corrected. I didn't experience any problems as a result of the problem. Good luck with you decision. Please share photos when you've chosen and purchased your bike!
Hiya many thanks for sharing your thoughts. I have a similar regret when I sold my first R6 as it was a one off. However now I am a bit older I envisage a thruxton as something more than just a bike and as my pride and joy with a view of keeping it long term. Time to get stocking up on polish in preparation, oh and some new leathers, and gloves. The bikeshow could be dangerous for my wallet
