HI im new to this forum and could use some advice please.I am restoring a 1965 bonnie and have been able to source all the bits ive needed from some very efficient dealers however the petrol tank is beyond repair I am looking for a UK spec 3.5 gallon tank not the US slimline,2,5 The only ones i can find are from India but am cautious about the quality ,has anyone any experience good or bad that would help cheers
Hi and welcome to the forum I've never had any experience with buying from India, I'd think that if the one you have is not salvageable then something solid at least is a good place to start from and could get it sealed inside and off to a bodyshop to get it finished on the outside and any corrections done if needed. Just out of curiosity are they quite expensive for a new tank from India? You might have have some luck finding info in the vintage classics section... https://www.thetriumphforum.com/forums/#classics.43
Yeah it is something to think about but if they are that cheap it might be worth a gamble and you never know, could get lucky and not need much work to get to a good quality. All the best pal
Wan Welcome to the family. Yes i have heard stories but myself i have had bits from there and quite happy with the finish. I think people got items that were rusty. But if stuck then you resort to anything. Have you tried an add on the TOMCC Forum. Joe.
people tell me that they have had decent tanks from royal choppers and from pummy8081 i habe no personal ecperience
I recently bought a Sportster tank from India and was pleasantly surprised with the quality - it was very good indeed and my only complaint was that the fuel tap thread needed cleaning with a tap.
I seem to remember Henry Cole restoring a triumph and getting a tank from India. I think it needed a little work but basically a good reproduction.
