In the last week I've almost ran over 3 pheasants that have appeared from nowhere the first time i was ready for impact but somehow it managed to fly up and it hit my leg with it's belly and bounced off, i was going a fair lick so i imagine it bounced off to meet it's maker unfortunately. the other twice were close calls. luckily they all happened on a straight bit of road but it could get messy running over one half way round a corner
I was riding a Bking with the misses on pillion. A pheasant flew out of a hedge and struck me on the chest and left arm. I swear it was like being hit with a frozen turkey, luckily I kept the bike upright and no damage ( apart from a bruised arm / chest)
Time of year! All the shooting clubs/estates will be releasing birds at the minute, game shooting season has just begun
I remember happening upon two rufty tufty truckers poking a winged pheasant with a very long stick a while ago. Not sure what they thought it was going to do to them so I wrung it's neck and chucked it in the car. Had it for Sunday dinner. A pheasant is basically a pretty, and stupid, chicken. As @andyc1 has said, a lot of young, and even more stupid, birds about at the moment. They still hurt if you hit one though, so mind how you go.
i did look to see where the first one went but i couldn't see it, the other two managed to escape unscathed
They are all over the roads where i live. I used to scoop the fuckers up with my crashbars on this old bike. Never bought a sunday joint all the time i had it
I bet you must have peddled bloody fast to get the momentum and velocity to take out a few birds. Who’s was the bike on the right?
Mine. That is my old man on the treader. he likes to follow on behind me, Carrying the wood for a fire, to cook the fuckers. It keeps him fit
I clobbered a Red Legged Partridge (think that's what it was) on the Dalveen Pass a few years back. It was strutting about in the road about 150yds ahead but I was knocking on and was on it in no time. Usually they just hop out of the way but this one hopped straight into the nose fairing of the Z and Pow!!, feathers everywhere! I stopped and went back and the poor little begger was just lying there in the road so I chucked it under a hedge bottom, just thankfull it didn't hit me full on in the face.....
Has anyone living or having visited Wales noted the peculiar species of Road Squirrel they have there? I have never seen quite as many tree rats before - all sitting in the roads To be fair they all ran like hell when we arrived. One was funny as it tried leaping majestically from the road through the wire fence to the side of the highway. It misjudged its aim and splatted against the wire. How we laughed.
I had a blackbird hit me square in the face whilst getting a bit of a lick on down the Holker Mosses. Long straight bit of road and this daft bugger whips out of the side of the road and does that side to side thing in front of me. I’m closing in at a rate of knots… so it decides to go vert and over me. It misjudged the timing and hit me like a little sand bag, splay-winged on my visor… everything was dark for a millisecond before it slid off. The loud bang and impact on my visor with the sudden lack of vision was scarier than any of the actual crashes I’d had on my bike. I didn’t come off, but I stopped and could barely get a fag out the packet ‘cos I were shaking so much.
Normal around here, To see the fuckers stand in the road, and just duck down under cars as they drive over them, , then pop up once it has passed. Unscathed, like fuck all happened Comical to watch. The look of surprise, as i scoop them up with my crashbars , seconds later is priceless Back when men were men, And women knew the difference.
I got whacked by a pheasant full face a few years back. It was my farewell ride on a tiger 955i. Was due to part ex it for a Yamaha FZ1 2 days later. The impact rendered me unconscious. Must have fell off the back of the bike like a rag doll. The bike carried on unmanned until it drifted off the road into a ditch and totalled itself. I came to in the back of a medicopter. The pilot and his No 2 were discussing whether to take me to Frenchay hospital Bristol or Selly Oak in Birmingham. Living about 5 miles from Selly Oak I pleaded with them to take me there. Several broken ribs and a punctured lung with bruising to internal organs. The policeman investigating the accident found the pheasant. My only evidence of it was a load of sh*t on the front of my leather jacket. Oh, and I had a visor shaped bruise on my face. The copper told me he had investigated a similar accident with a motorcyclist versus a pheasant 12 months earlier on the same stretch of road in the Welsh borders. That chap was killed. To finish the story, I had to phone the guys at On Yer Bike from my hospital bed to tell them I no longer had a part exchange. They had already registered the FZ1 to me and fitted a few accessories I'd ordered. They reimbursed me every penny without complaint. Absolute stars.
This time two years ago I went to visit a showroom in Thame, Oxfordshire, to look at a potential new (to me) car. Between the M40 and the site there was a corner bordered by a hedge that had no end of squashed game birds on it. Must have been near some shooting ground or other and a batch or two had been recently released. Was very wary as I passed. Have come very close to headbutting a few birds over the years but have only managed to kill one that I can recall, when a sparrow darted out in front, lost the race, and ended up being cooked on my radiator surround. What a pong...
