In my search to destitute my family and alienate myself From my friends… I often see half opportunities here and there, and I struggle to resist!
I have seen a potential trade that would give me an operational bike with shitloads of tinkering potential.

A GL1100 naked goldwing from 82/83… recent service including cam belts… looks in good nick (from the photos) 68k on the clocks.

so has anyone owned one (naked version) I expect they make a great alternative to a Harley type cruiser… any hints of stuff to watch out for?

Bought a GL1200 weeks ago. Very interesting bike. Easier to ride than the weight would suggest.
The point to check are the carburetors. They need a careful rebuild sometime, and if the float height and sync are not properly done, the bike will seem to ride ok, but wont rev over 4000. You need to check that.
Brakes are not very efficient, that means they need to be in perfect shape to work properly on a 300 kg bike.

The weak point can be the stator. It sometime burns (and need the engine to be removed from the bike), check if it's been done before. To avoid that, clean stator connections help.

Cheers Hubaxe, As part of the service, the carbs have been balanced. I think this isn’t the front/rear joined braked version… and that is a concern, plus it’s the comstar wheels, not the cast… I believe they can be a point of concern on a big boy too.
But I do kinda like the look of it… my concern is going from a sorted bike to an unknown quantity makes the wariness glands spurt a bit.

A GL is a marvelous second bike. But it's a 40 years old bike.. Most of the parts are still available.
I can rebuild mine (a later 84 model) finding everything, here and there.

To me it's way cooler than a HD. :) (insults and fighting rendez-vous on pm, I'll answer everyone after sorting out all free sex proposals)

@Hubaxe offered that a GL would be a marvelous second bike. Would this be a second bike? Or an only bike? Maybe I missed that somewhere along the way. But I don't recall what you're riding these days and it may have changed anyway during your forum absence. As you said, this bike is an unknown quantity. Forty years old and 68K on the odometer would activate my wariness glands, particularly if this was to be my only bike. Good luck with your purchase decision!

Yeah, it would be trading my main (only) ride… I think you’re right about it being second bike material. So I will leave it… pretty sure I was heading that way with my decision making anyway.
If I’ve piqued anyone’s interest, the bike is in Preston, oop norf! I don’t have any association with him, but I can pass on your details… asking £2350 or will consider trades for TDM or Tigers.
