Since I had some free time and the weather was supposed to be good I decided to have a crack at the fabled PEN1$ 287 from The Grand Tour tv show. Did it over 2 nights and stayed near Gairloch on the west coast. Clarkson and the guys did say it was one of the best driving routes they have ever taken and it certainly did not disappoint. Amazing views and scenery. Fantastic roads and some great food along the way. Weather held out although I did get slightly damp in a cloud at one point. Surprised how quiet most of the roads were although there were quite a few camper vans to contend with. Plenty of bikers as well to chat to when I stopped along the way. Would definitely recommend this route and it could easily be done in a day if your starting from Inverness. I will be doing it again for sure. Also a shout out to the Thruxton R. What a machine! I love that bike more and more every time I ride it. On the downside Pirelli Rosso Corsas are very expensive and I seem to have shredded a set in my excitement. Dave.
That looks a great ride and the food delicious. Having just done Wales and want to do the rest of it I will postpone re-exploring Scotland. I’m also worried about the gnats and accidentally meeting @Dave49 Just joking. An amazing country. Love it to bits.
just had a look at your pictures. Looks like you had a fantastic time as well. It’s great to be so close to amazing scenery and roads.
Initially I thought it was another spam post! Looks great and thanks for the posting. I did the nc500 anti-clockwise but I was in a hurry so I’ll get back and very probably do that route.
Funnily enough we are near to Scourie just now, on the NC500. Not sure if we will have time to do that route but all of the scenery up here is awesome. I do confess to doing it in the car….. We’ve come up from down south and have done nearly 900 miles over the last 5 days…I have to say I am sick of the rear view of feckin camper vans. They do seem to travel in convoy….
It never ceases to amaze me the number of awesome roads that people find and then ride in the UK. It makes me wonder why I have toured so many times in Europe when all this is on our doorstep.
Probably one of my nicest days drive ever on this island . Although, I go to Glencoe in the morning from here.. that looks promising too.
Here now, will check that one out ,,,,after beer! Thanks. I assume that is the route around the Loch ? Looks, great…
I stayed at the MacDonald hotel in Kinlochleven on my recent short trip to Scotland so my route out each day was on the “loop”, one side or the other. It’s not fast and there are blind crests etc but it’s a great little road. Think I enjoyed the north side best.
What a great tip Dougie . Even in a car it was a lovely drive . Now sat in The Balcony bar with a beer , cheers .
