Bike Won’t Start ☹️

    **update** A new battery has got Betty back running, Thank you for taking the time to reply.

    if all the ‘normal’ lights are on when the key is turned (street twin) can anyone suggest why, when starting the bike, nothing happens apart from the usual short whirring sound whose technical name evades me at this minute ‍♀️ Battery seems ok, disconnected it and reconnected it, still won’t start.I have breakdown cover but thought I’d ask here first. Thanks in advance

    Hi, when you say battery is ok how have you come to this conclusion. What is the standing voltage and what is the cranking voltage? These modern bikes have sophisticated electronics and if they detect there isn’t enough power to successfully crank the engine they won’t start, despite there being enough to prime the fuel system. It’s designed to protect the starter clutch, amongst other things.

    Thank you, yes I now understand that. Off out to buy a new battery as that seems likely to be the problem. If not I’ll post an update. Thanks again, I’ve learnt something new now

    Yes it was plugged into one but I think the battery has had it, it was only reading 10v (I got my neighbour to check it) ‍♀️ As Yorkshireman explained, not enough charge to crank it over. Now just bought a new battery thank you.

    Anything less than about 12.3 volts and you will have problems as others have said.
