Greetings from the new guy. I’ve had my ‘20 Scrambler 1200 XE for about five weeks and about 1,100 miles. I’m having an intermittent issue with my indicators that is difficult to reproduce. Each of my turn signal indicators has randomly failed to work. I get a warning message on the dash in every case. Sometimes the indicator begins working on its own, other times it resets after I shut down and restart the bike. This has happened multiple times on each corner of the bike. The message is correct when it appears and I have verified that the signal is inoperative at the time. Never has more than one quit working at the same time. The dealer is making an effort but says there is little they can do if they can’t reproduce it. Fortunately, the tech did see it occur once. That day, he cleaned a connector on the offending signal and wiped up some excess dielectric grease. The bike is unmodified. Battery is in good shape and I put it on a trickle charger every night. I’m curious if any other member has seen this issue or has any advice?
This may not be the answer but certainly worth looking at just in case. I have the Street Scrambler 900. There seems to be a batch of them, including mine that have this issue. Check the handle bar left side switch wiring harness. Mine follows the handle bar and then goes down and behind the headlamp. It then goes into a bracket with the clutch cable etc. Here is the problem. After only 2400 miles and when parking up the bike I will turn the handle bars left and right lock to position the bike in the garage. There is a small point where the wiring Harness gets pulled and rubbed up against a small section of the frame edge. If you get a light to see and examine carefully you may find the same thing happening as it has to mine. The rubber outer harness sleeve had been worn/cut into against the frame when turning the handle bars left and right. If not found it can cut through the Wires inside. You then get indicators and other electrics starting to fail. It may not be the same on your model but worth looking.
Had something similar, the left side handlebar connections get stressed and disconnect, try wiggling or better still cut off cable tie push connectors in and issue may go away it did for me. Also do a full once over of fixings with your torque wrench, many riders have highlighted loose bolts, my right side shock bolt was out four full turns, looks like Triumph scrimped on the Loctite in some places
There was the same issue with the new Rocket after the latest software update. Given that they both share the same instrument panel it could be related. Worth a visit to the dealer as Im sure they will be aware of this
Thanks, for the info. it’s at the dealer now and I’ll mention the issue with the Rocket. Daveweld and Repooh, I checked the wiring myself, even inside the headlight bucket. I didn’t notice any tight spots or loose connections.
Had the same issue on my speed twin ended up trading it in for a new scrambler 1200xc they said the issue was with the cluster unit and replaced it totally did solve the issue but I was in the end to do with software and some resistors apparently triumph uk confirmed they had had seen it before so may be the same thing (I hope not )
Thanks Jason, I picked it up yesterday after no attempted repair at dealer. They said “we couldn’t reproduce it”. Took it on a ride today and it happened three times Took video and pics each time so now I have some more evidence. the service writer said he spoke with Triumph and they were no help. Should I believe this?
Hey buddy sorry to contact you! I am really getting upset with triumph… I’ve had issues with Abs, TC, check engine light and service light whilst riding.. After paying £90 for someone to tell me it’s a water ingress issue, they failed to notice the pinching of cables… near the ignition barrel. Attached are photos and videos of the issues occurred with this lazy routing of cables by triumph The brake cable has also started to degrade even after a service not so long ago, a service which includes the inspection of the brake cable…. I’m sadly not the only one affected by this..
