Hey Looking to order one of these from underboat96. I’m assuming the longer handle doesn’t hit or catch the wheel rim/tyre at all? The C spanner supplied is more likely to do damage due to it slipping around in the handle

i"ve got one too and also a chain monkey. Chain monkeys are flippin' great so WELL recommended! Just set up the "monkey" on notch 2.5 (only do this once on it), slacken the bolt, slacken the chain, insert the monkey, tighten the chain as tight as you can, do up the bolt THEN take off the monkey. Chain is perfectly set as the slack is put into the chain when the monkey is removed. Perfect every time and takes 3 mins.
I was given one of these & trying to figure if I should be taking off the plastics dome but cover as this digs into the chain & effects the slack set. It’s an early one just never used. Hmm
Yep, the plastic dome bit comes off and thrown away when you get it/use it. I think it says it on the back of the packet? Genuinely, a great bit of kit.
I guess I need to learn the lesson that I shouldn't believe everything I read on forums!!! I bought this item and duly went out to the garage this morning to wield it in anger and the verdict . . . stick with the OEM peeps - it's better!!!! The problem with this item is it is sufficiently long so as to clash with the tyre and the 190 section of my Speedy means that the tool can't be mounted straight . . . it has to go on at a slight angle. The next point of issue is the heads of the sprocket mounting bolts have very little to no clearance laterally with the chain adjuster wheel. . . . . When the tool is mounted and because it can't go on straight, it overlaps the bolt heads and so when turned, it bears down on the heads of the mounting bolts which serve as a fulcrum and simply raise the head of the tool out of the receiving slot in the adjuster. This would not be a problem if the handle of the tool was sufficiently short so as to fall inside the wheel itself and thus be capable of mounting square. As it is . . . . .unuseable. I don't understand how folks haven't picked up on this but regardless, I have informed the seller so that he can produce them with a shorter handle that remains one-piece and therefore less fiddly than OEM. Meanwhile peeps, save your money . . . . .
I agree with everything you say here. I actually take the wheel off now to do it as that handle is crappy and as you say, needs to have a smaller handle and thinner c bit.
That was my first thought, but you turn it over to use in either direction, so better in one direction worse in the other.
Hi all . . .final instalment. I contacted the seller . . "underboat96 and requested a refund and he allowed me to keep the tool if I agreed to shorten it and retest and let him know the required dimensions and I duly obliged and the verdict is . . . . still no good to be honest. The TigerSport guys don't have any problems at all and although it seems unlikely, I can only suggest their hub is of a different design. Sadly, the advice remains the same - don't be tempted to waste your dosh on one of these . . buy a set of chocolate pistons instead - far more useful because you can at least eat the things!! I have attached the following by way of explanation for those interested . . . . . . Hi Paul . . . that was an interesting exercise but ultimately unrewarding. I cut the end off the C spanner such that the handle is now 133mm in length from the end to the inside face of the C along the inner edge but sadly, the spanner still doesn't work on my bike and so I will assign it to landfill - a shame but hey ho. The good news is that I have found out exactly why it won't fit but am unable to explain why the TigerSport guys and Speed Triple owners have made it work for them and they have done so without modding it in any way. There is only one conclusion and that is the hub/carrier design on the 2018 Speed Triple has been changed/updated. Both your product and the factory OEM spanner are manufactured from 4mm metal. If you look at the first photograph, you will notice the adjuster wheel and it is itself in the region of 4mm thick. In the same photograph, you will also notice the heads of the sprocket mounting bolts which protrude towards the hub such that the lateral clearance between surface of the bolts and the outside face of the adjuster wheel is effectively zero. In reality, I suspect these faces overlap by the smallest amount and the real world "clearance" is actually less than zero!! In the following picture, the angle would suggest a greater degree of overlap than truly exists but this is the crux of the problem . . . . The problem with your tool is that the C-Spanner itself is too deep, and so it is not possible to get it “underneath” the sprocket mounting bolts and the extra depth means that it has to fit whilst resting on the heads of the bolts themselves. This means the inside surface of the spanner is incapable of being lowered onto the adjuster wheel over its circumference as it merely comes to bear on the hub itself. The OEM tool, whilst fiddly, is manufactured in an apparently skimpy manner but this is deliberate as it allows the spanner to seat on the adjuster wheel over its full length and it does so by nestling underneath the mounting bolts – see following photos The first picture shows your tool located on the adjuster wheel but then sandwiched against one of the sprocket mounting bolts and thus unable to bear down onto the adjuster wheel properly as it is being pushed over onto the hub itself. The next picture shows the factory tool mounted and being much slimmer in design, it is able to fit underneath the mounting bolts and thus the lateral clearance is not an issue – the OEM tool thus fits nicely onto the adjuster wheel along the full length of the C-Spanner. I have inserted a couple of photos to illustrate the difference in tool design which demonstrates the issue and why your product doesn’t work on the Speed Triple 2018. I suspect your two-part tool would be affected the same and in this instance, the only tool worth having would be of identical design to the OEM unit but with the extension incorporated into the tool so that it didn’t keep “falling apart” during use. I may have one of those spanner’s in pic and the heavy socket for rear wheel for sale,bikes sold so no use to me but sockets a black Halfords one so dear to post,if close enough to Glasgow may be use to somebody,oops and warrior paddock stand lying in garage.
