I've found the dash can be a bit slow to boot up fully..noteably the fuel gauge. not seen the steering lock fail to disengage yet tho
Exactly! IT may not be a looker, though visuals are in the eyes of the beholder...and the looks can grow on you. Personally this is the first SDR that I like in terms of optics. It is also pretty long (though feels very short from the seat!). Yes, looks a little bit like a field machinery from Austria. But every ride, every straight, every corner on that bike, even at low rpms and on limited speed public streets, is an event. Each and every time you brrap that bike you giggle. Not so on the other ones, at the least not to the same level, especially BMW that needs to stretch its legs due to I4.
everybody is so into color-matching these days, fashion...looking after their visuals and others' perception of self... I have a blue Carlos Checa X-802RR helmet, I stick out like a ding-dong! My 8-year-old red-blue-black Alpinstars jacket has seen all four seasons, cold, hot, sun, rain, salt, is worn, the white parts are not white anymore, creased, zipper pulls broke off or fell off (replaced with longer pieces of thick string, for ease of use in gloves)...I get a lot of respect (maybe pity, but I prefer to think it is respect) from other riders (At least I do not ride in white snickers with white socks, that's where I draw the fashion line )
Met a guy today with the new Speed Triple, he got it 6 days ago, the first time he was out on it the engine management light came on and it wouldn't start so had to get it collected and taken back to the dealer, they "Sorted" it and today was his 2nd time out on it, engine management light came on again and it wouldn't start again, he was stuck 50 miles from home, he is going to insist on his money back, i don't blame him.
i lost ncb due to cancelling my policy so to take multibike policy out. if i knew the rs wasnt going to be here till june i would have left the old one in place as it ended 3rd june.
I've discussed this on another thread, but this was my experience of the outgoing model too. I tried fitting a softer spring to the rear shock, and it didn't help in the slightest. The issue was compression damping, and once you've set that to minimum I'm note sure what else can be done. Lower viscosity oil perhaps?
Just spotted the new 1200 RS on the roads. First I was dead sure it was a Ducati Street Fighter, then I had a second look and listened to the sound and realised it was the new 1200 RS. It looks flippin nice. If Triumph keeps expanding in Sweden (like they seem to do now) and there actually will be places where I can service my bike I can definitely see myself owning one..
I'm late to this thread but just want to say that the method @SteveRS just described works great! It's exactly how I get the reflectors my bike. I've used GooGone to remove the adhesive residue over the years but more recently the service manager at my local Triumph dealer suggested, of all things, lighter fluid! And that's what I've used the past several times and it's brilliant. I just put a very small amount on a soft rag, gently wipe off the residue, then go over it again with a wet rag to clean it off. Never had one problem using this lighter fluid method--although I have to admit I was pretty darned nervous the first time I tried it! But I trust Steve, the service manager, and he's a complete stickler about both his bikes as well as those of his customers. I've used it on all three of my current bikes with great success--each of those bikes is gloss black where the reflectors were.
From this review, I'm glad I have the 2019 Speed RS both for its engine characteristics vs. the new Speed as well as the concerns about how the new bike handles "B Roads". I'm not exactly sure what B Roads are but if the B stands for "bumpy", that pretty much how all our roads around Tucson could be classified. Now that all said, I'd certainly love to take the Speed 1200 RS for a test ride just to make sure I have the right model.
Haven't tried the new 1200 but I can only imagine its a fantastic bike and the suspension settings can prob be tweaked so it works fine. It can't be worse than my Speed Triple S 2016 anyway. I love the new look but I think that they could have been even braver when it comes to design. But at the same time I like that you can see that it is a Triumph and a Triple. Looking at reviews it really seems like most reviewers like the bike and see it as an upgrade. The only thing that concerns me is that its a brand new bike with loads of untried solutions and a new piece of software that will contain bugs.
I took delivery a few days ago and so far so good. I’ve always ridden sport so I’m also trying to get used to the seating position. I’m not a track guy and do find the suspension can be a little harsh on shitty roads. I’m hoping that his can be adjusted at first service to better accommodate my riding style. I’m currently in the break in period so my riding hasn't been very spirited. The only gripe so far would be the Triumph Connect app. I’m an iPhone user so I’m stuck having to wait till September for full implementation. Android users should be good to go.

I have now ridden Ducati V4s and Supersport 950S. I have to move 1200RS down in my ranking now. 1. Superduke 1290R 2. Ducati V4S. I know V4S costs much more and I also do not like the looks of it, too much plastic for the money and not as cosy as 1200RS somehow, but man what a ride. I sat on it, I went straight to our mountain passes and I felt right at home on it. What a bike. One hour passed like nothing. One negative, it is very loud already in stock form, I know it is Italian bike, but way too loud, no need for that. Also, you feel it is based on sportsbike, and those 210hp are useless on the street, if you want to be law-abiding citizen. I liked Supesport 950S as well. It is like a modern italian reincarnation of Honda CBR600F4i, but with a more relaxed sitting position. Great for beginners, easy to ride, easy to lean very far, nice sound. Negatives - mirrors are useless because of vibrations and the engine REALLY sounds like a sewing machine. That noise overpowers intake and exhaust noise and does not disappear when you go faster/higher rpms. I cannot believe the the most sewing machine noise I have ever heard would come from a modern 2-cyl Ducati. On the way back I was thinking: "For 12k CHF this is a great bike, totally worth it." Then I came to the dealer and looked at the price....17k+. OK, I would not buy it for that money, sorry. Superduke 1290R is THE BEST FUN ROAD bike, period. It is fun from 3000rpm already, not too loud, but can make really fruity noises, steers into corners with conviction, comfortable for tall riders, instrumentation is first notch (missing lean angle indicator, which I LOVE on BMW and Aprilia).
@Snusmumrik Always nice to hear what people think of other brands and personal views on bikes. The superduke seem to be loved by everyone and everyone seem to agree that its a really fun bike to ride.

I think I might need to test ride one of those KTM‘s to get a sense of how it feels because I have a really hard time getting past the looks which I am not a fan of at all.
Yes, it has a bit of an industrial and brave design. The new ones do look better I think but its not close what I would describe as beautiful. Have been living with my new Aprilia Tuono 2021 now for a few week and ignored my Speed Triple until yesterday. Still amazed how different bikes can be, the Speed Triple is in many ways such a likeble bike. The 3-1 arrow system sounds flippin amazing. I prob won't try the new 1200 untill next year, might regret getting the Tuono if I do :-D
All my county roads are dirt so i'm not sure this is correct... but yes the suspension is firm on dirt roads as well... =)
