Is it common for a brand new bike to have low oil pressure warning while on the move?

I have the new trident and decided to just get some kms earlier today and I observed the low oil pressure warning light on. Could it be because I was riding it for too long? I was riding for 30min and roughly 13km at this point. I immediately turned the engine off and let it cool. After the cool down, there was no warning.

I'm trying to understand if my approach to breaking in the engine caused this or if there is a genuine oil pressure issue. Any suggestions on how to go about it?

Sounds daft - how new is new?

I know you probably have, but check the oil level as it isn’t impossible that a pre-delivery check may have missed getting the level right.

Checking the oil level regularly is v important- when new, my tiger drank oil almost as fast as fuel until it got run in.

You weren’t doing anything silly like doing a 13km wheelie? That might disrupt the oil flow.

Check the oil level then contact the dealer you bought the bike from and get them to fix it. Checking oil level first lets you give that info to them, and also lets you know if the dealer was negligent in the pre delivery inspection.

    Edit:

If the oil level is low you might want to check for signs of a leak too, not unknown for a new bike because mine had one after a few 100 miles due to the alternator cable grommet being pinched when engine was put together.

Needless to say, I wouldn't want to be riding the bike if there's a chance oil isn't getting where it's needed, especially with an engine that's not even broken in yet.

It's a 3-day old bike. And when I received it it had just 1km on it, I always assumed the pre-check would add a couple more kms.

    And no wheelies.

I’d take it back. Make sure no damage is being done.

it’s a pain but best to get it checked (and logged) just in case there is a warranty claim later.

Shows you did the right thing.

Thanks! Good points. Let me double-check the oil levels first.
I'd be devastated if it's the dealership's negligence.

sure, I guess I will have to go back. I have no way but to ride to the dealership. Hope it all works out fine.

Just curious, apart from getting it logged in the system. What options do I have if it's the dealership's fault? I mean, I literally went on 3 responsible trips on the bike.

In the UK we have certain rights to reject a purchase if we’re not happy with it. No idea if such a law exists over there but I’d do my utmost to make the dealer squirm and get ‘something’ out of the situation. You have after all bought an expensive premium bike and you aren’t enjoying the experience.

Call them and tell them of your displeasure.
That'll get it logged too should anything happen.
Also, it says in the book that you should check oil, water and tyres before every time out so that'll be their get out clause if they require it.
You can tell them that you've lost faith in it if they don't give you a reason for it too.

If it were me, I'd be phoning the dealer and letting them know about the problem and see what they suggest doing about it. If they wanted me to ride bike to them I'd point out the potential engine damage from lack of oil, and be expecting them to come collect bike.

Thank you all! They are closed today, I've sent them an email about the issue.
What was supposed to be a fun long weekend turned into spending hours on the internet looking for answers.

Hi, sorry you've had this happen. Hope you're sorted by time of writing. I dont know what your dealer is like but I think you ought to tell Triumph yourself by phone and in writing exactly what happened. Can't always trust dealers I'm afraid.Good luck for the future.

    Hello.
I bought a brand new speed triple 1200RS and I had the same exactly issue within 220klm of using the motorcycle.
Can I ask what happened with your bike and how did triumph handle the warranty?

Hi and welcome. Sorry to hear your new bike is playing up. Whilst phoning the dealer is the start point as you said you have also emailed them. I would suggest you continue to follow any telephone conversations with them in writing as well. Bit of a pain, but having an audit trail of the problems is really important if things are not resolved by the dealer and you need to engage Triumph. Good luck mate.

Yes . We put more oil on the bike and the mechanic told me it had an issue with an oil valve. But I believe this is nonsense and his covering for triumph giving me the bike with low oil. Hey let me ask you what's the temperature your bike is running? Mine is 3 bars below full right now and it's winter.
I'm asking because I'm afraid it might had an engine damage.

has the light ever come on again after adding oil? i added some oil to my bike now the oil level is about at max mark. its still doing the same thing. Are you talking about cooalnt temperature? if so my bike is 4 bar blow full when moving, 3 bar blow full when going slow in traffic, and its summer here. I think even in winter its normal if you are going slow. as its a litre bike any way. i dont think it will damage the engine its more like a sensor issue i guess, because every time it happened i just restart the bike the warning will be gone. Its like when driving a car, when you go through a corner very fast the low oil pressure light will come on as all the oil moved to side, but it will go off once oil all settled back. Its just different on our bike, the error wont go away unless you restart the bike.

but anyway i will let dealer check out when doing my first service soon.
