Hi, I am a long-time motorcycle rider, and have enjoyed riding motorcycles since 1992. I currently ride a 2012 Speed Triple R, which I have owned since nearly new, and have decided to join a discussion forum to read about the new Trident. I am not terribly old, but am appreciating relaxed ergonomics more lately, and am thinking of getting something that rides more upright and relaxed for the longer rides I occasionally take with friends. For most of my riding career, I have ridden solo, and used the bike primarily for commuting to/from work. Longer rides out are new to me, still.

I am looking forward to what people have to say about some of the new models out there since I last considered shopping for a bike. I have heard good things about the Trident, but also the Speed Twin, which is also attractive.

Hi Bruce. Welcome. I'm the same as you in that I'm interested in both the Trident and the Speed Twin. I love the sound three cylinder bike engines make, so I'm favouring the Trident at the moment. BTW you started riding in '92? You are just a kid then. I started in 1969! I guess that puts me in the terribly old category. Lol

Greetings and welcome to the forum, Bruce. Good luck with your bike purchase decision. I don't know that there are lots of Tridents out there yet but I'm a big fan of test rides. If a picture is worth a thousand words, I think a test ride is worth about 10,000 words. :) Let us know what you decide! Hope you enjoy the forum.

Welcome, fellow Nutmegger. We even live in the same town! Maybe our paths will cross some day. BTW, my son is getting his new Trident 660 in a couple of weeks

Thank you and everyone else for the warm welcome! I agree test rides are the best. I found that the tridents (right now, at my local dealer) are being purchased sight unseen, with no unsold inventory to throw a leg over or even just see in person. I could go out of state, but if I can't even sit on one in a showroom, then there's no point worrying until I can. The R is doing just fine, thank you very much, although I will have to do a better job with my stretches before longer rides (which I hope will start happening again this summer).

A speed twin is coming into my local dealership this week, and I did express interest in seeing it, assuming that comes to pass on their end. From pictures it looks very nicely finished, and I know the famous Triumph paint jobs always look better in person. I am looking forward to riding, whatever it may be this year.

Things progressed a bit this week. I got to see a pretty fresh trade-in, 2019 Speed Twin (dealer pictures attached). I am going to go for it, and paid a deposit on it last night.
