I really appreciate how lucky we are to be able to eat at restaurants once again and that in many cases there are patios and outdoor areas available. At this point, we still only feel comfortable eating at a restaurant if we're outdoors. It is heating up here in the desert, though, and very soon it will be too hot to sit outside comfortably. So we're enjoying it now!

Speaking of fire pits, Dawsy, not this past Christmas but for Christmas 2019 Mr. Sandi and I decided to get two adirondack chairs and a fire pit for our backyard as our gifts to each other. Covid hit a few months later and since then we've spent many a night sitting around the fire pit with a nice glass of something. It also turned out to be a nice--and safe--way to entertain a guest or two when no one dared sit around together indoors.

Believe it or not, it does get quite chilly in the Sonoran Desert in the winter with temps dropping into the 30's overnight and even below freezing on several occasions. Just enough times to kill some of the plants in the yard. So even sitting in front of the fire pit we'd don our down jackets and wrap up in blankets. It became a regular ritual that we came to appreciate and love. But at this point in the year I don't think that fire pit will see another fire for the next six or seven months at least!

I do hope that the temperatures warm up for you guys and that you'll soon be able to enjoy restaurant dining again on some lovely patios.

Edit: Oh, yes, and we got quite used to stinking "like a kipper" on those evenings by the fire pit.

Got fed up doing that so put some drag bars on the Savior Ass Amen chop. I can't believe just how well the lines are coming out on this - the zorsts follow exactly the bottom rail, the tank lines up just right, the rake is the same angle as the down tubes. I may keep this once I've painted it and got it running - just to look at



Just beautiful engines - miles better looking than BSAs or Nortons. It's worth buying a classic twin Triumph engine as an ornament.

 

I never got the chopper thing and the whole OCC thing passed me by but I have to say the lines on that are absolutely bob on (gedditt?!) . Magnificent piece of work sir, take a bow!

Just got ST 1050 out of Winter hibernation ( been running Bandit 600 through the salty road times). Fitted new battery yesterday to replace 11yr old original which was still ok, more of a preventative measure as have never had last more than 4yrs before on any bike and didn’t want to suffer sprag clutch issues for the sake of £40. Gone with another Yuasa, would like to see 10 yrs out of this one but won’t be holding my breath. Also sent for a couple of 1.5 metre chains for when out and about. One is way to heavy to carry round but the other is a 12mm Oxford that will loop around the seat and go through the top of the back wheel which keeps the lock off the floor. Seems to be what I want but as I don’t have a top box etc it’s the carrying round that is the issue. It will loop through the grab rails in a fashion but that’s no use with to a pillion. Any ideas apart from round body, rucksack or using a different lock? Thanks

 

Despite I don't lock my bike 90% of the time, I found this little bagster bag really convenient for the 10% of the situation I have to take the lock. It's originally a saddle bag, but it's ok on the packet carrier.

 

Getting the fiddly collets in hoping that they don't ping out into the dark recesses of the garage is a worry. You never seem to have enough joints in your arm to do this job, always feels cack handed.

 

My 2018 Tiger 800 was delivered today, what have I been doing today is trying to find out what the hell all the buttons and menus do. I had also been looking forward to changing tyres out for some Road 5s, it’s turned up with new metz front and rear, bloody triumph dealers chucking in new tyres and just short of a full tank of fuel, I mentioned I would have to fit a tank pad, it’s come with one. I can see why Staffordshire Triumph keep winning customer service awards, and damn fine people, now just need to put some miles on it to remove the chicken stubble

 

Won’t be climate change that kills us it will ultimately be toxic waste and plastics that’s dumped into the environment usually by the ones whining about the poor old climate where do these folks think coal came from. Massive trees during the explosion of life on this planet, the inconvenient truth is CO2 was 18 times the present level, plant life thrives on it. But plastics and toxic waste kills both plant and animal life which includes us

You can count on that my other bikes are SORN now, I would say where and when but weather looks unpredictable at the moment so short rides between downpours

 

My son and daughter-in-law have just put their holiday cottage on the market for rental. It is in the small Welsh village called Llithfaen, near Pwllheli. I thought I would explore the roads around the location, so set off from Cheshire along the north Wales expressway to Bangor where I picked up the A487, then onto A499 to the B4417. The video is of the last few miles into the village and a view of the cottage.

Beautiful roads, countryside, and cloud-dotted blue skies, Wessa! Looks like a great ride. Sweet cottage. It's very tempting to look into renting it along with some bikes. But I don't know if I could get used to riding on the wrong, er, opposite side of the road from what I'm used to.

 

Goodness, needed translation help on this one. HH helped me understand the spring issue. Whew. Successful? No collets go flying away?

 

I regularly request translation assistance on this forum, @Martine. Along with clarification about food that people name and post photos of.

 

You would be welcome I’m sure. As for the roads I regularly ride in Europe which is on the same side as you guy’s in the states and find the transition reasonably easy.

 

Yep, all collets safely in the head. I only had eight, so a loss would have required a search with a magnet in amongst the spider webs.

 

Took the wife's Stripple for a spin to prevent it from feeling neglected...

 

Some brilliant ride write-ups posted recently. Enjoyed them all and the pictures. I'm not good about stopping to take pictures so only a few to share from last weekend.

HH treated me to a get-away weekend at a motorcycle lodge in the foothills of the Appalachians. This place is only 75 miles from home but we took about 200 miles getting there last Friday and again on the way home last Sunday, with a great ride in the twisties on Saturday.



The lodge is positioned smack in the middle of great mountain roads for both street and off-road riding. The lodge itself has only three guest rooms and a modest restaurant but the beautiful grounds are open for camping and offer spartan cabins for those who prefer a solid roof.


The lodge serves as a gathering spot for riders of all kind and the parking lot turns into an ogler's dream as bikes of all makes and manner pass through. On Saturday morning the parking lot filled with dual sports as the North Georgia Adventure Riders group gathered before a group ride out. On Sunday morning the lot had several Harleys mostly with pillion riders as they dropped in for breakfast.

There are riders of all kinds who converge on these hills every weekend. I have no problem when some of them blow past me since I don't need to find my limit on every curve. Also the cops patrol pretty heavily and I've no desire to adorn my weekend with a ticket.

Weekends like this come few and far between for us. Had to farm out the three kids to two of my sisters for peace of mind. Not leaving the 12, 14 and 16-yos at home with each other for two nights and days...Goodness only knows what we'd come home to. It was much more relaxing having removed that concern. Thankful for them, especially given they don't have children but are great aunts.
