Hey Guys. So........ I've got a chance to buy a 1200xe Scrambler from an insurance company. Problem is that it wasn't wrecked, it was stolen and apparently the theif tried to get it to run.. Cut some wires, broke the fork lock, digital speedometer, lost the seat, left side cover and tail light. I'm fairly mechanical and electrically capable but this looks complicated. At best I'll need a new: main wiring harness, tail light, side cover, seat and speedometer LCD. Not to mention dealing with the keyless ignition. Looks expensive. So I suppose it depends on how cheap I can get the bike for. But what do y'all think? Would it be possible to go with a keyed switch and analog speedometer and bypass some of the electronics? I really don't need all the different "riding modes". Can you imagine in 20 years when everything on these bikes are glitching out? Just make it simple! Thanks to everyone in advance. --Matthew
anything is fixable depends how much money you want to spend and how cheap you can get the bike,i dont know but I think the riding modes would be in the computer control
Sorry if I'm telling grandma how to suck eggs here, but it depends how cheap the bike is vs a similar aged one with no issues. You could be buying a bargain or a nightmare. If you aren't super savvy with the electronics yourself or have a friendly mate who is, personally I'd leave it alone.
My father had some mice get into the wires and fuel lines on his tractor, causing a small fire under the dash. The cost of a wiring harness was so ridiculous they just totaled it. I’d check on availability and cost of one before I did anything.
