Guys, I have just traded my 2020 diavel 1260s for the new silver 1200 RS. Wondering if anyone has one yet and what they think, been watching vids and reading reviews but I find they are biased one way or another, take the diavel all the reviews were about the power and suspension but not one called out the none existent rear brake or really bad gear box. This and fitting a termi put me right off, and I was fed up with the comments of that’s a Ducati and why they are special bull crap. so I am looking for honest reviews from riders with nothing to gain apart from assisting other riders on the bike in general. Before my diavel I had a 2018 speed triple S with maxton suspension and legal arrows, it was a great bike, always wanted a diavel and based on reviews swapped. Really wish I hadn’t. I’m a triple triumph fan having ridden triumphs for the last 15 years (owned multiple models in that time and always found the speed and tiger sport the most fun) hopefully there are a few out there, with them only just hitting dealers as demos, may not get much advise yet don’t get me wrong if I wanted a smooth bike it would be a jap bike but I want something with soul, but works Thanks Chris
Hi Chris I see your point. In 2018 everyone was saying how good the S3RS was. Then 44teeth called it a turtle when reviewing the 1200.. have a look at Michael Neave's review for MCN It seems very fair . Says it's good on track. Very quick. Too firm on suspension for comfortable road use. Also the wheel base is longer which gives good stability but it's harder to turn on tight turns. To me I am not as keen after the reviews as I was hoping for a really high torque and midrange and mostly they added to top end. Depend what you want from your bike I guess.
I like a hard ride and set most of my bikes that way, spent many of my younger years on the track, and set my road bikes the same way, hurt my knee 2 years ago and struggled with the triple, was torn between the rocket and the diavel. For me the diavel won on looks and good reviews. Had that for a year and not gelled with the bike and with a few issues spoiled the bike. The knee is a lot stronger so want the more sport oriented ride back. I have read that the RS is more tack focused and went to view one today and looks wise and size ideal for me, tires I’m not sure about as i don’t need the slicks and my get these changed before collection (dealer offers a free swap during pdi) so need to read up if the factory fitted are any good. hoping to be the bike in may, and just waiting for triumph to realise the charger for the lithium battery.
Wheelbase is 56.9" for both 1050 and 1200. The 1200 has a 2.75" longer swing arm because the stacked gearbox shortens the engine overall.
You are right on the money. I just re-watched the 44 teeth video on the 2018 RS and besides Faygan saying you can feel the weight a little when letting off the brakes in the corners, they absolutely raved about how great it is and how much better it was from the previous model. They’ll probably do the same for the next model too lol. The MCN review looks to be the most honest and detailed.
Honestly Chris I think it will be a fantastic bike. The 2019 I have is a brilliant road bike, I wouldn’t change it for anything. Ticks all the boxes for me. Looks like the new RS is a little more track focused, but will still be a great road bike. Hope that helps, but only you can decide if it’s the right choice.
Didn't 44 Teeth already review the 1200? They did call out that the suspension response was not as fluid.
Yup. Watch them both and you’ll see what where talking about. In the 1050 RS review they rave about how great the bike is and how much better it is from the previous model how much of a track weapon it is, besides Faygan saying you can feel the weight letting off the brakes in the corners. Then in the new video of the 1200 RS they make the 1050 RS seem like a poor handling overweight turtle. The MCN review seems spot on for an objective review. I’ll have to ride the new bike to completely understand what has changed, for better or for worse.
I had a 2018 speed triple s and when it came time to change, I looked at the RS but had always wanted a diavel, I should have stuck to triumph and saved a lot of cash, but hey sometimes we don’t follow logic or sense, and now im moving back to triumph I wanted another speed. It was a decision, do I go for one of the remaining 1050’s or get the new one. After seeing the new one and sitting on it my mind was reassured that my purchase the 1200 was the right one. Not ridden yet as the dealer is still preparing the demo, but if it’s as good as the old one then I’m more than happy
picked mine up today. Traded an MV brutale dragster rr. I have to say the bike is everything i'd hoped for and more! The ride is firm rather than hard so a compromise between road/track. I'm 100 kg in kit and set up was good for me. If you want a hard ride try an MV on scottish roads... Shifter was spot on no false neutrals but not riding hard for obvious reasons. Phone connected no probs and shark tooth helmet connected second attempt. Works great! City riding was good, bike felt nimble and was well mannered at low revs..no surging or jerky fuelling Good on motorway, tried cruise control which is a first for me and again no issues and is a handy feature. B road was fun, handling is spot on. The bike is just so much better built than the mv was, everything feels premium. Hopefully the weather will start behaving soon and ill get the engine run in so the fun can really begin..
Did you stick with the racetec RR tyres ?, I am getting the M9 RR tyres as I don’t do track, and wanted grip in the cold, mines expected end of may, added a lot of accessories, can’t wait.
Please listen to visor downs review, you can literally hear at the end of the video a 4th gear miss shift using the quick shifter. We only got my old thunderbird and the scrambler now in the family, crossed over to ktm.
I think you are right Pete. Not as violent as some of the ones I had but that sure sounded like a miss shift to me. Wow!

Have you experienced a false neutral on a speed triple? Even track mode doesn’t allow the rear wheel to spin up like that, as there is still a degree of traction control operating. It’s possible they’ve turned all the traction control off, but it did not seem like a time where the wheel would spin up like that. It seemed like he was about to change gears. If he was hard on the throttle leaned over in a corner I can see it but not after exiting the corner.
i have been watching many videos and reading multiple articles and not heard anyone complain yet over a false neutral, hope it’s not an issue, it’s the reason I just sacked off my 2020 diavel due to constant 5 to 6 false neutrals and you could hear the gear box crunch, hated it and it was every ride 2 or 3 times. I have had many triumphs over the years some with and with out QS fitted. I don’t use them that much, as I think muscle memory kicks in and I have to think to use the QS.
