    Hi Guys & Gals,

I got the Trophy out today to go for a ride and noticed that both the taillight and brake light did not work. I figured it would be an easy job of changing the fuse but the fuse was OK. I did a test and if I put power directly to the taillight and brake light they work, turn signals work also on or off the bike. I started checking relays and such but this one has me confused.

I did a search to see if this had been discussed before, I found nothing here.

Any Ideas on what or were to check?

    Thanks in advance.

    Hi,
What do you mean by putting the power directly to the tail light?
Did that include a part of the wire, or just the bulb.
As both brake and tail light are not working, I'll check the ground continuity.

If it's been stood for a while it may be due to sticking / corroded switches. They might need stripping a bit and something like wd40 applying.

    Hi,
Sorry, yes, I removed the taillight assembly and applied power directly to the pins as to eliminate the possibility that the unit was defective. I've removed them and reinstalled, they still have the dielectric grease on the pins and appear ok, I have not test the relays themselves as of yet. Both signal lights work, they share the same plug but I have no power getting to the plug for the tail light, plate light or brake light. ???

    More checking today.

    Update!
I think I have found my problem with the taillight & brake light. I reached into the space around the forks and was tugging on the wires and I noticed the center park light would turn off and on. With the light on I had a taillight and brake light.
Also, if I turned the handle bars to the right from the center it would go off, turn it back to center and full left it would be back on.

With about an hours worth of working the combination of screws and fasteners I had the fairing and headlight off and found that wires from the bottom of the ignition switch seem to be the location of the fault. The front brake line runs past the bottom of the switch wires and it tightens on those wires when the handle bars are turned to the right.

My manual doesn't show how to remove the ignition switch but it appears that I will need to remove the front fairing main mounting frame to get at it.

Has anyone done this job, what should I be aware of before I start that job?

Thanks for you help and comments.

The arrow points to the front brake line that tugs on the wires at the bottom of the ignition switch when the bars are turned to the right.

This morning I called the Triumph dealer in Beaverton, Or. They confirmed by the last six of the VIN that mine was part of the Recall. However, the soonest they can get me in is June 2nd. They said they would like the bike all together. After that phone conversation, I went out to the shop and started reassembling. After a couple hours of slowly making sure I got it all fitted correctly, I ran out of screws at the same time I ran out of screw holes to put screws in. That is always a good thing. Still starts and runs but no taillight or brake light, so I guess I'll be trailering it north in June.

    :eyes: Cheers.
