Activities at 'that' time made surfing out of bounds ! I remember sitting atop Hill 63 and looking out to sea at the two incredibly green islands out there. No desire to go back, though I hear many do and are treated quite well.

I've done some amazing memorable rides; France into Switzerland being particularly memorable.
But my favourite is the one I did a few years back which funnily enough was the NC500 in Scotland. I think it is my favourite as it completely beat any expectations I had of the ride, the scenery for one, the surprising vastness being another.
But I think it is currently winning as we were there for almost 7 days and had beautiful weather, I mean lovely warm weather every day except the very last day when we were coming home.

1270 miles within 24 hours. Three buddies and I left Bristol, PA in the wee hours for Bike Week in Myrtle beach, SC. A white knuckle ride. The lunatic leading the way apparently mistook the route designation (Rt. 95) for the speed limit and we got into town around 10:00 a.m. We checked in at our hotel, got a bite, then headed up to Norfolk, VA, because one of the guys son's was graduating from some school at the U.S. naval base and he wanted to see the ceremony, so we rode up with him. Then, back to Myrtle Beach, getting in just before midnight. Not memorable for scenery, it was mostly a blur, memorable for being butt-sore.

Wow, an "Iron Butt" 24-hour distance PLUS, Fork Lock! It definitely sounds like a memorable ride. :p:eek: Glad you made it safely.

They never break down a mile from home or around the corner from a repair shop.

I pulled out of a parking lot once onto a major highway and hammered it, as traffic was coming on fast. As I went to hit second the clutch cable snapped. The bike went all squirrely and I tried to horse it into the lot of a bank to get off the highway. I narrowly missed some curbing and went into the lot almost sideways. A kid was coming out of the bank.

Kid: "Wow! You just drifted into that parking space!"
Me, in very high, squeaky voice, because my nuts had migrated up to about my larnyx: "Not on purpose."

My knees were shaking so bad you could hear the change in my pocket jingling.

Pamplona to Zaragoza in June 2017. I set the SatNav to avoid motorways. The scenic route was, errrrrr......... very scenic. At one point the 'road' degenerated to a gravel path (not much fun two up on a 1200RT) and literally hale a mile later was a dual carriageway.

new mexico. many, many years ago in the high desert on my T120, gray skies brooding over the lava and junipers as the evening gathered strength.

alone in the middle of 50 miles of two-lane blacktop. lying flat on the tank at 90 miles per hour, the sound of the engine packed solid, mile after mile along an arrow-straight highway.

cutting between the tarantulas on the pavement emerging for the night, a thousand miles of road behind me, an unexplored road ahead of me leading between the basalt-topped mesas, never getting closer as the miles ticked by and the desert came alive

    My most memorable ride?

In 1978 (at the age of 16) I rode across town through Rome Italy in the middle of the day on a beat-up, wheezy Puch moped. To this day, I have no idea how I survived the journey.

Done to many to be able pick out only one. However the riding in Norway was special.
