    Sometimes when I'm out a run and stop the bike it will not go into neutral,i put it in first then when i try to put it into neutral it goes into 2nd ,then when i put it back into first you can keep clicking down over and over again which seems really weird (like as if there are endless gears ),this has happened maybe 4 times since i got the bike a few months ago,is this something to worry about?

    Hi Dougie, I can't remember how old your Speedie is, but I would be doing the following:

    1. Check and verify that the clutch is adjusted according to the book, in terms of freeplay;

    2. Change the engine oil (the gearbox and clutch all bathe in the same oil) for motorbike specific JASO spec oil.

    Mine does the same thing once and a while, so did my last one also a s3. if you let the clutch out a bit and then repull it in it will go in gear fine.

    The bikes 2 years old, it had 1350 miles on it when i got it and I've done about the same amount of miles on it,i was told they had changed the oil before i got it, but i don't have any proof of this, so i will change it anyway just to be on the safe side as the handbook says to change it every year and to use semi or fully synthetic oil.i'll get the haynes manual out and check the clutch,hopefully it's something simple like that

    i don't have a problem getting it into gear when this happens, any one of the "countless first gears" is fine! it's just getting it into neutral,it's not a huge problem just a slight annoyance but i was just more concerned by the "countless first gears" thing

    Same for me too, once its in one of the countless first gears release the clutch just a bit as if you are going to pull away but change your mind then it'll go straight into neutral.

    cheers i'll give that a try when it happens again,how do you find your gear changes in 1st to 3rd? mines seems a bit notchy but i'm hoping it will get a better as i put more miles on..it has the updated gearbox which is supposed to make it smoother

    Mine are/were both silky smooth Did 16k on the first one and up to 17.5k now on the R. I think Biglad was spot on with changing the oil.

    Let's hope that solves the problem.
    My Enfield has the opposite problem - it always finds neutral, just not when you want it!

    Could it be oil? I hope so, let us know Dougie just make sure you are using the recommended oil and engine oil filter and check magnet on sump plug.

    cheers Peter, i have bought some synthetic oil and a triumph filter as i was going to change the oil,but I've checked the service book and the dealer actually serviced it before i got the bike a couple of months ago,i checked the oil and it does look as if they have changed it,the problems not too bad so I'll leave it a few months before i change the oil.it's done less than 3k so maybe things will sort out once it's done a bit more miles

    Just try monitoring it over the next few weeks, try cold and hot, even try using your hand as this will be a more sensitive way to check by feel something that is not quite right with the gear selector.
