    Hello Chaps & Chapesses,

I am transferring a set of Denali dual intensity D2s from my old bike, a Honda CBF1000 FA, to my nearly new Tiger 900GT. Fitting and most of the wiring was no real problem. However (why is there always a 'however'?) I need a trigger feed to switch the lights to full intensity. This usually comes from the high beam headlight.

Does anybody know the best location to find the switched, live feed to the main beam headlight? I need to connect into that. Oh, and the colour of the wire would be useful as well?
As it's an LED light, hopefully, the feed is clean enough to trigger the Denalies but does anybody have any comments on this? Or alternatives if the headlight connection doesn't work?

Got the bike in late October but because of the local council's attitude to spreading tons of salt at the drop of a frosty hat, then there's damned covid! I've only been out once. Can't wait to get out for a run.

    Hamish.

I’m running Denali on my street scrambler using the data dim relay and picked up the main beam cable from in the headlight bucket. I assume you don’t want to pull the headlight apart to find it?
If the feed isn’t clean enough for the relay then Denali do a manual switch that does high/low or maybe a capacitor would solve it. Probably not much help but good luck!

    Thanks TillyB,

I was thinking about the headlight for the trigger wire source but was doubtful about it as the unit was a sealed LED. However, bit the bullet and removed said LED unit and found a cable plug in the back. 10 mins testing with a multimeter found the supply to the main beam ~ a blue/white wire. The supply was clean and did the job. Denali come up to full brilliance on full beam (i.e. on flash or switch to full beam).

I say Denali as only one of the pair I fitted responds to full beam. The other has a fault. (I've had this set of Denali 2 for a couple of years and they have been troublesome. The dual intensity controller, the off/on switch and the wiring loom have all failed. NOT good for a set of auxiliary lights that are one of the most expensive on the market. They are good units but have the reliability, in my experience, of a 1980s BL Marina.). My mate, who fitted a pair of Denali 4s to his 2019 GSA1250 has had similar experiences with their dual intensity controller and had 2 or 3 replacements under warranty. That may be good customer service but shouldn't be necessary.
Come on Denali ~ waken up!!

great news you got the right wires. I think mine are blue and white so looks likes that’s a triumph standard. That’s bad to hear about the reliability. I bought the Denali as I thought it was good stuff. Fingers crossed mine has been ok so far. Hope you get the faulty one sorted!

hey guys - that will be my project next week, gonna see how this goes :) will look to hook up the Denali D4 to the triumph canbus on my 900GT
Hamish, was there an easy way to plug in the Denali harness to that or you think only way is what TillyB suggested - to pull the wire from the headlight bucket - im not that much of a tinkerer and a bit worried about pulling the headlight bucket (whatever that is, I'll look it up :) ) apart... was hoping for a more plug and play method, but sounds like Triumph is not making it super easy?
if any of you took pictures of that open heart surgery too, I'd love it so I know what I should be looking at. Ill post some updates once I start to receive that gear

    Nikopm,
I'm assuming you are going to use the Mk2 Denali wiring loom which has a data dim relay (order separately) with a blue trigger wire (to connect to main beam). Normal running for the Denalis is they are only at ½ intensity. The purpose of the full beam connection, is to bring the Denalis to full brightness (which is very bright) when it's activated.
The full beam wire in the Triumph loom is blue/white and is easy to find behind the headlight pod. There is also a blue/light grey wire in the same loom so be careful not to confuse the two ~ I almost did. The Denali kit includes a pin connector for the connection to the main beam wire.
You'll also need a switched live connection to power on the lights with the ignition. A good wire to use is the one to the rear position light (can be found under the pillion seat). From memory the Denali loom has a white trigger wire to connect into this and again, there should be a pin connector for that purpose, in the light kit. This connection is the one that turns the lights on via the relay.
It may sound complex but it is pretty easy, if a bit fiddly. I bought a new set of S4 Denalis and they look very neat on the Tiger 900GT plus at full intensity they ARE bright. The lights are mounted on a set of Moteck engine bars and are rock solid.
After several trial fittings, I put the data dim relay in the tray above the battery (& under the rider's seat). Not perfect but the loom wasn't quite long enough to allow the relay to be fitted under the pillion seat.

Hope this helps. Best of luck when doing the work.

    Hamish.

Hamish for the win- this is incredibly helpful, thank you so very much!
I’ll give this a shot in a weekend or 2 once I receive all the parts, and can take some pictures of the install if this pans out to post here
With the above, I have some solid directions :)
    Thanks again Hamish, you rock!!!

if helpful for anyone, I found the triumph fog light installation instruction showing connection point. I'll use that in conjunction of instructions above

    Nikopm,
Think you'll find that the connection is only live when the headlights are on. Don't think it works when just the running light is on.
One of my mates tried to connect his Denalis into the triumph fog light connector but found it too difficult.
Hope you have better luck that him. :)

hey Hamish! thanks for the deets
I fitted the lights over the weekend, works great. I actually installed them on a specific fixture under my headlight, I'll send a pic soon. Im receiving the Motek crashbar this week

I should also be receiving the data dim this week, so I'll follow your instructions above to connect the blue wire to the full beam wire in the light pod. Do you remember how easy/hard it was to take the headlight pod out? Juts wondering how much of a pain it will be to access that wire...

As for wiring the lights last weekend, I went same route as you did and installed the main unit under the rider seat. I actually hard wired the white trigger wire to the battery so I can turn aux light on even when bike is off, if needed.

I agree the light without dimmer are super bright, so looking fwd to the dimmer :)
Thanks for all the info again Hamish, this was very helpful

Thanks for the info Hamish... your info motivated me to mount a set of Denali D4's with the dimmer device on my 2021 Tiger GT Pro.

Is the high beam wire also under the riders seat? Or just by the highlight?

I tapped into the blue and white wire coming from the headlight connector for my Denali D4 with Data Dimmer. It's a pain to get to and someone else may have a better idea.
