Anyone got any thoughts on whether the speed twin’s low exhausts would fit onto a scrambler 1200?

In many ways they are almost twin (pardon the pun) bikes - much of the internals, engine, frame are identical it seems.

I know some Italian brands to expensive low exhaust conversions but I don’t want anything too loud and don’t see the need to go aftermarket if not necessary!

would love to get twin panniers etc and build a bit of a scrambler-tourer.

Hi David, I can't answer you question but do you mean the Speed Twin? It's going to be a closer match since they are both the 1200 engine. I imagine the 900 engine from the Street twin uses smaller diameter headers.

Probably just talking to myself here but in case anyone’s interested...

found this pic of the speed twin exhaust system online... Didn’t realise the cats were arranged like that below the block.

Given the Scrambler’s cats are in-line (burning your right knee) I guess it might be a much bigger job than I might’ve thought...

maybe the aftermarket is the only way to go

I had a scrambler for a short while and I think I remember a gap under the engine where the cat sits on other models. I can't see Triumph going to the bother of moving the engine down in the frame just for the scrambler. If there are going to be any issues, its probably going to be with the various mounting points for the exhaust.

Another note if you decide to go down this route. Installing or removing the cat involves undoing the actual frame of the bike as the cat won't fit through the gap in the frame.

Maybe an X pipe from Meerkat Mufflers or Veryx to eliminate the entire cat would be possible to help you.

Thanks for all the input everyone - and sorry for not coming back sooner...

I ordered one of the Zard low exhausts which I couldn't be happier with! Really great quality, looks brilliant I think, and I got the Euro 4 / Type Approved one so it isn't obnoxiously loud.

I have the left SW-Motech pannier installed, and the RHS one should arrive tomorrow - am hoping that I'll be able to make something work using the speed twin mounting brackets and some ingenuity...

Did you get that right side pannier to work out David? I'm looking at a 2019 XC that I hoped to mod just the way you did.
    Thanks,
    Derek
