Sandi we share your pain because many of us still see the USA as the largest beacon of light in the world, and see this latest stage in Trump’s assault on US democracy as an assault on democracy and freedom in the world as a whole. Hopefully (and almost certainly) the wisdom embedded in the US constitution and system will prevail, but the fact that the word “hopefully” isn’t a ridiculous word in the circumstances is a horrific state of affairs. Trump and his cronies need to go to jail for this. The Republican Party is finished for a generation, and so it should be. Imagine if a “left wing” President (ha, what a ridiculous notion) had attempted something similar. There would probably be calls for the death penalty for treason. What happens in the next 14 days? Trump clearly cannot be trusted in any way, and will probably be trying to pull off a similar stunt on Jan 20. And his followers include such nutjobs that maybe someone might even attempt something awful.
Whatever happens, I hope that the next few years will somehow calm down... Was anyone shot or stabbed during this?
I hope so--I pray--too, DCS. So far there is report of a woman who was shot in the chest. No details other than that, however. There were also several police officers who were injured, one who was transported to the hospital. Again, no details beyond that. I suspect there will be a number of additional injury reports as the dust literally and figuratively clears.
This was my post over a month ago. I knew this was a possibility but I had no idea it could be this bad. Today is a sad and embarrassing day for my country. This President had the ability to diffuse this situation, he prefers to open the can and pour more gas on the fire. No more words, just sad.
It is incredibly sad Russell, as you say. Almost as sad is how a man like that has managed to fool so many people for so long. Fortunately the Senate seems more sober and grown up now than earlier on.
It’s a dangerous game to keep enabling a sociopath. The followers have enabled him his whole life. He will never concede. Twitter has just blocked his account. Pretty telling when Twitter has more sense than the President.
This tragedy should be a watershed moment in US politics. It remains to be seen whether it will be, but early signs today of the continuing stance of "The Trump 100" suggests that we are going to be disappointed. They should all be locked up for treason, including The Mad President. This, by the way, is an example of why conspiracy theorists are dangerous. They sow seeds of discontent, they spread lies, and they incite others to action.
