Not a motorbike tour, but my son has booked us a week on Mull at the end of August (current shitstorm notwithstanding). Anyone been there and can tell me of anything worth doing/seeing? No doubt we'll be trying to get some pics of the otters, might take a shot at getting to the top of Ben More. Any other good walks, hills, historical sites to consider? Thanks in anticipation. :)

I can't unfortunately, give you any really valuable advice beyond what you might find in any tourists guide book ... other than to say that Mull is a really beautiful place to visit and I envy you.

I had the good fortune to have been given the job of a car delivery there in 2019 so I did manage to actually get across there but, sadly, for only one evening, night then morning! Tobermory is picture postcard pretty and very much worth visiting and I'd have been looking to do the Iona and Staffa (for Fingal's Cave) tours had I been able to stay longer but, for now, they're on the bucket list.

    Enjoy.

Doesn't Paul Mc Cartney know something about this area?
Sorry, first thing that popped into my head, now I'm stuck with that blasted tune, serves me right.
I'm sure someone will respond correctly.

Yeah, be careful about that mist rolling in from the sea. And the bagpipes.

Point of order-Mull of Kintyre is not the same as the Isle of Mull. I worked with a lass at the time who thought it was called Bollocking Tyre. Although she had form-she thought Ballroom Blitz was Balls and Tits. Not the sharpest knife in the drawer.
Adie-yes I'd like a trip to Fingal's Cave, our place is only around 5 miles from Tobermory so those two ought to be easy enough. :)

Do you know where you are staying?

Mull is pretty beautiful all over but the must visits are also likely to be the busiest like Iona (worth a day on foot) and its ferry, That SW peninsula has fantastic sandy beaches. Calgary Bay has changed since we camped with one other caravan in 1966! Now full of people but a great shallow bay and swimming spot if warm enough!
As to the rest explore slowly. The roads are not conducive to much above 35mph and you would miss the views. You could see otters anywhere but the coast road SW of Killiechronan is a great place to stop and sit quietly. There are various places on the west coast road that have a Jurassic feel and you could imagine pterodactyls launching from the crags! Isle of Ulva also worth a day to explore on foot.
Just a expect all 4 seasons and if the wind drops legions of midges.
Fingal’s Cave is pretty special but highly weather dependent. I did it care of military shipping in the aftermath of a gale. Bouncy!

We're just NW of Tobermory, Calgary Bay is pretty close. Got the car so area is less important anyway really. Foot exploration suits me fine, we'll have walking gear of course. Might even chuck the tent in and try for a cheeky wildcamp somewhere. :)

Pfft, you’re spoiling all my fun.

I believe it was Wogan at the height of his breakfast show who referred to the song as Mulligan’s Tyres.

Anyway, turns out Rachel has been there but only to play rugby and was therefore drunk. Oban is apparently very nice and worth a look around. August is midge season so go prepared.

Been there in May a few years ago and thought it was a bit bleak to be honest. On one of the few nice days we took a boat trip to Fingal's Cave, worth doing. Also took the ferry across to Iona (takes about 5 mins), that's worth a root around and there's a restaurant that served fresh local mussels. :yum:yum

    Sounds just great.
Not Mull but a Skye memory here.
2 years ago one of my sons went with me to Skye, we were dead keen on doing the Skye Trail.
Parked the car at Broadford and off we went with all our gear for one weeks walking on our backs.
Pitched our tent in woods after rounding Loch Slapin, having covered good ground for the day.
Up early next day and back on the trail, through Camasunary Bay, some grub in the Bothy and fabulous views of the Cuillins and onto Sligachan.
Wind was blowing furiously and after wrestling with the tent we went to the nearby boozer / hotel and enjoyed a great hot meal.
Back to the tent, on opening the entrance a massive freak gust of wind ripped the whole side out of it.
Heavy rain forecast, we were in a spot, so back to the hotel, outrageously expensive, no room in the bunkhouse and little interest in our plight either, truth be told.
We were preparing to sleep under bench seats outside the hotel when a bloke returning to the hotel from his own days walking saw our pathetic preparations for the night and immediately offered us any assistance that we required.
In the end he drove us back to our car, absolutely refusing any payment, what a bloke!
We were totally deflated and called it a day, slept in the car and drove home next day.
The message here is, eventually, watch out for winds.
We have unfinished business and when this Covid crap is history will return to see this off!

Yep as Andy said, definitely go to Iona. Visit the abby, worth your while.

And scallops and chips on Tobermory pier!

@curly l was wondering about pulling in at least a drive around Skye. Decide that nearer the time, no point getting overexcited just yet : unamused:
