I was in Lidl this afternoon to pick up one of their brown sourdough crusty loaves. I then went to look at their Deluxe range of cheeses and picked up a French Brie. No sooner had I picked it up than I thought "fuck you Macron" and put it back on the shelf. I've not bought French wine for ages either. I'll miss my French cheese.
dont need the buggers anyway pal https://www.mousetrapcheese.co.uk/somerset-brie-cheese-mild-english-brie-1507-p.asp
Good for you Sir , they need our purchases ( as do the rest of the EU ). If you can get it Somerset Brie is lovely ! Also , fortunately in Bath < we are blessed with a 'micro' bakery The Oven...... fab crusty sourdough !
I haven’t bought a French letter for even longer Probably why I’ve got so many kids all the bloody French’s fault
Finished a Somerset Brie off this past weekend and can confirm their excellence. Leek, Staffordshire has a great bakers, with great sourdough loaves, in Bath St. - Live, Love Loaf. Oldfart
My Mum's from Leek. We still have a few relatives there, Uncles, and Aunts. When I was a kid we used to go and stay with one of my favourite Aunts and a highlight for me was a visit to the cattle market on Junction Road! We've visited a couple of times, post lockdown and had dinner in the Chippy in the Market Square.
Only ever been to France once, on a 1 week visit to Paris with the school in April 1970. Four things stick out in my mind from the visit. It was feckin freezing with snow on the ground, the toilets on the train from Calais to Paris were just a hole straight through to the track (we thought this was hillarious!), the underpass on the Champs Elysees was filled with people sleeping rough and we caught site of Concorde on the tarmac at Orli Airport, still undergoing trials at that time. Back then 1 Franc was = to around 1s 6d. We were allowed £5 spending money.
Small world! Leek is a great place to visit and shop. As you know it’s blessed with many good places to eat and drink, especially drink. Blue Mugge just off the Buxton Rd is my current favourite. Oldfart
Fond as I am of France, I draw the line at their cheeses. Recipe: Take a cheese, leave it till it starts to rot, sell it as a delicacy. Come off it chaps surely they're having a laugh?
It's tough but someone has to do it. I'm still awaiting a grovelling phone call from that cheese eating surrender monkey Macron mind.
Somerset brie is defo very nice. Apparently some UK white wines are too, but that's not my thing. The reds aren't. If I can, I always try to support UK farmers and keep jobs local. DS
