Bought one of these bike scissor type lifts a few months back (Ebay) for working on the Scrambler. Just shove it under the sump guard and lift, very handy. The max weight limit is 500kg so the 210ish of the bike should be no problem. All's been well until tonight when I was lifting the bike to remove the front wheel, there was a bang and the lift collapsed. Luckily I caught the bike and stopped it from falling. Going to try and get a refund and buy a hydraulic type lift. View attachment 116141
Have we concluded the issues are with various lift manufactures in general or is everyone's experience with the same make (in this case 'liftmaster')?
They’re all the same thing Made in China and distributed by different suppliers under different names I took mine into work and repaired it I also complained and got my money back
With mine it was the nut part that you put the winder or socket on It just sheared the pin holding it on as I was lifting the bike Unfortunately it also holds the Jack in position so when it fails the Jack instantly collapses
The female thread was stripped out of the drive mechanism. As Dilli has said, they all look basically the same with different stickers on. There is a company called Liftmaster, based in the Home Counties, who sell proffessional garage equipment but I don't believe the one I bought is anything to do with them. It came from a business seller on Ebay, based in Manchester. I've contacted them but if they don't respond or claim "out of warranty or missuse" etc I'll just write it off and source a hydraulic lift of some sort.
This is the one that I have.... got it for when I had my thunderbird LT. but now use it for my thruxton.
That's the type I'll probably go for. I have an ABBA Skylift for the Z which is great. I guess I could buy adaptors to use it with the SS but it'd be a bit of a faff changing bikes over when something like the one you've got would be quick and easy.
Can you post the brand name so the rest of us can avoid the same mistake just wondering if it was a cheap material ( read Chinese) product

I see you say Manchester, but your link says Warrington. (Wouldn’t want some Manc. trader suffering if all his customers are happy) Apart from that, will eBay not help you make a claim against the vendor? Worth a try. Cheers,Ken.
