You may well be correct, but until the complete break down of public confidence the point is mute . I have however enjoyed the debate
By the way, you cannot ‘manage a virus’ any more than you can nail blancmange to a wall. All the language of lockdown, circuit breaker and allied trades is political invention not epidemiology. It is more like a relay race where the objective is to drop the baton. Problem is, we are social creatures and viruses are slippery customers. You can slow but cannot stop.
And THAT is my great concern. How far can trust be eroded before our political consensus implodes? Trust and tolerance are central to what makes liberal democracies work......but when they become illiberal? And by tolerance I mean what you accept but with which you disagree as opposed to reject outright and ignore.......it is fundamental to respect for the law unless replaced by fear of consequences.
My post was not specifically targetted at anyone here, more of a general point. Take for example the two tier approach to law enforcement and reporting when BLM, Climate Alarmists, or Muslims (outside French embassies) have been demonstrating, compared to that applied to protestors against the governments handling of Covid. However some of the comments on here have been somewhat intollerant, inferring that anyone who questions the currently Covid strategy is evil and not caring about the vulnerable (read some of the previous posts), when people are simply saying there are better more logical ways to protect the vulnerable, the economy, and in the long run save more lives.
Ok semantics regarding "cannot manage a virus". You well know my meaning was not specific to the virus but the overall approach to managing it. Again you are correct it is likely that we will only ever be able to slow it. Having said that there are many advances in medical science where disease have been reduced, so who knows with this one.
Fair enough mate. I cannot comment on the policing of particular events as I don't have the intellegence that they have. It is unfortunate that emotions do run high with these types of debates and both sides need to sometimes take a step back and think through before posting responses.
Yeah I read that. The only bit that worries me is that it needs to be stored below -80 C. Your average GP surgery can't store that, it's going to need special (expensive) equipment. But I guess not a problem with todays science etc. Anyway, looking good for Spain in September.
@Callumity Seems to me you are getting very close to advocating anarchy with some of your posts. Not what I would expect from a BA officer.
Been out this morning for some essentials, bottle of milk, some Hobnobs etc, and the traffic seemed no different to pre lockdown. Supermarket was as busy as usual. Most people were wearing masks though.
I didn't call you an anarchist did I ? As a serving member of the armed forces you would have had no choice but to uphold the law of the land, just or not. I'm guessing you are not of the mutinous type though.
I would not have obeyed an illegal order any more than one I found unconscionable. Meanwhile the propaganda machine touting 90% successful Covid vaccine has been ‘successful’ on a mere 94 individuals. THIS IS UNTESTED in any conventional sense and may well be a result of natural immunity but political salvation and kerrching!??? (Flu vaccine 40% effective after 70 yrs development)
You do realise that you are talking to a bunch of hairy arsed bikers, WTF is the big highlighted word.
Time to lob conspiracy grenade! A Messiah complex to match Blair’s.....? Bill & Melinda appear to be the two unnamed members of SAGE.....
The Twittersphere https://twitter.com/ali79596850/status/1325436332496334849?s=21 I have no particular view one way or t’other but Gates has influence far beyond his obvious skill set.
People are still eating the same amount and there's no restriction on shopping for essentials so I'm not surprised the supermarkets are as busy as usual. Don't know about traffic levels. I can't see the road from my Anderson shelter.
