G'day guys and girls! I'm new to this forum (but not motorbikes!) I have a 2016 865cc Speedmaster here in Auckland NZ. Have got very few k's on it and have noticed quite a noisy squeal all the time the engine is running - its bloody annoying tbh!! I'm assuming it may be the fuel pump and am wondering how to fix - replace?? Be glad to get any advice. I'm pretty handy on the tools and can repair myself (and am a tight arse so trying to avoid dealer repair rates!!) but am unfamiliar with later fuel inj bikes so don't want too tu tu too much until I know what I'm up against! Thanks all!

Welcome to the family. The bike might just need to settle if it has been stood for some time. May need a carb injector cleaner through the system. Do drop us all a picture of the steed. Just hit the upload a file button bottom right corner and happy inmates.
    Regards
    Joe.

    Hi mate and welcome :)
I think like you I’d suspect the fuel pump
I had a 865 Speedmaster and it would make that sort of noise when first started but it would disappear when riding :)

Hi Bubblehead and welcome to the forum  From a fellow kiwi. Most of the twins make a racket on startup, as Dilly mentioned. Looking forward to seeing your ride.

Hi Joe, thanks for that. Bike does tend to get left unused for fairly long periods so will try some injector cleaner first before attacking fuel pump. Will dust off the Winter cobwebs and get a piccie uploaded!

Hi Dartplayer, haven't really noticed too much of an engine rattle, more this overpowering whine which wasn't there a year ago. Due a pre Summer service soon so will investigate closer. Will post a piccie soon!

Thanks Dilligaf (great name curtesy of Kevin Bloody Wison!!) Will look at the fuel pump soon and looks like I should be able to get one for $100 locally.

I would try a fuel additive for injection engine’s mate if the bike hasn’t been used much and take it for long blast it might clear it up and save you a few bob :)
