Anyone taken theirs on track, and what tyres do you use specifically for track days? I have bought my Spiple for mainly use on track, so don't need tyres to do both road and track riding.
I've not took my triumph on track yet only had it a week but I've got an R1 track bike and use continental race attack comp soft front medium rear Great tyres
I use mine on both track and road and have been using Michelin Pilot Power since many years back. Last version that I put on was Power 5 put the 3 has been working fine for me. But i'm guessing there is better things out there if you are doing track only, mine is a compromise.
I had the Pilot 4's on my Street Triple. Good tyre. The Speed has them on at the moment, but they are squaring off, so looking to change them and get a better tyre more suited to the track
I'm guessing the pilot 4s are the "pilot road" and not the "pilot power" as the power version wasn't released in a 4 version (I could be wrong tho). I have been looking at the Pilot Road and would prob be going for them if I didn't have a handfull of trackdays. To be honest I would love to get my hands on a spare front and rear wheel that I could throw on for the trackdays.
I used to use Pirelli Diablo Supercorsa's. SC1 front and SC2 rear, when I raced my Mille. I thought the were excellent then, and I can only imagine they've got better int 13 years since I stopped.
Thanks for your suggestions. Will most likely give the Pilot Power's a try - or the others if they are a lot cheaper
I use only Pirelli Super Corsa on track, SC1 (soft) front, & SC2 (medium) rear, 28psi front & 26psi rear measured cold, then they always go on warmers for the whole day while not on track, fewer heat cycles that way & tyres stay in better condition. I must say that this is personal choice as I prefer the feedback from SC’s, they squirm to let you know your near the limit before they slide, takes some real abuse to make them let go completely.
Actually, thinking about it, I had Dunlop’s on my RC8 road bike, I binned it after owning it only 3 weeks, but to be fair that was on a diesel spill, but I had already decided Pirelli’s were going on instead at next tyre change, for me the Dunlop’s didn’t give me the same confidence. But hey, tyres are personal choice, ask 10 riders & you’ll get a different answer from each!
Thanks for your info. Only ever tried Pirelli's on my Busa years ago and did not like the way they dropped into a bend, so not used them since. But may well give them a try on the Stipple
At t'moment I've got Avon Storm 3DX-M's on, and I love em. They're t'first Avons I've had since I had Roadrunners, back int day. I reckon the Avon 3D ULTRA XTREME would be good ont track, which is what they're designed for. Most people tend to overlook Avon.
Very true.... Because this But to be fair back then your choice was Dunlop 181s, Roadrunners or Speedmasters. Actually, on reflection... That'd put you off avons I had a set on my K4 when I needed a cheap tyre. Lordy.
I've always run Avon's on my Busa - apart from the 1 time with Pirellis, and have always rated them. Tried them on my K16 and was well impressed with them. Have Roadtec's on my K16 at the moment and don't trust them, so when they are due for replacement will be getting Avon's again.
I’ve run Dunlop Q3’s with success. Currently I’m running pirelli Supercorsas on my Daytona and like them as well. Might try the Metzler Racetec K2 next.
I've had no issues at all with Supercorsa's, used them on a number of different bikes, but it's down to individual preferences, if a person is happy and confident with whatever tyre they have then I guess stick with those, for me the Supercorsa's suit fine, Look at the racers in the TT superstock and supersport races, the Supercorsa's some run with turn on phenomenal times, you only have to watch them going through places like Kirk Michael etc to see how the tyres work, I freely admit I can't ride at that level and it only end one way if I tried, but I enjoy what I do and the Supercorsa's just work for me, and am not bothered by the cost. Ride safe all.
