Looking for a long term fix for wobbly mirrors on my 09 St 1050. This is the 3rd time I have taken them off as the tabbed /locking washer has allowed the spring to loosed. Not sure if a thread could be put on it as it is cast I believe. As space is tight in my garage I have to fold them in most nights and they eventually work loose, today it went to the point of rotating completely. I have stripped it down with a view to tapping the washer tight but it's no longer serviceable and guess who hasn't got a spare one of the right size so with the fairing in pieces I wil have to go out in the car tomorrow to get a replacement or two unless some one has a better solution.
I believe the later model mirrors have a threaded section rather than a star washer so it's easier to tighten the spring but I'm not 100% on that. However, that won't really help if you need to fold them due to space limitations. I'm not totally convinced that it's all down to how tight the mirror is. I think part of the problem is the amount to strength in the attachment point. If you hold the fairing at the end (i.e. at the end just along from the mirror) then the shaking will reduce dramatically.
Got that but as I said I can't hold that when I'm riding unless I'm getting the wrong end of the stick with what you mean.
I've been to the same conclusion. Not a real issue for me , but if it starts to be, I'll apply some fiberglass inside the fairing, around the mirror leg attachment.
My Sprint GT mirrors buzz at certain speeds. As stated above, tightening the screw at the fairing connection doesn't really do much. I thought about removing the mirror glass and adding some more weight behind it - worked for me before on a K100RS I had years ago.
