I have a 2 bed bungalow I need to change my old boiler, I have been advised to change boiler from vented to sealed and doing away with tanks by a gas safe engineer he has recommended this Baxi Doutec 28 kw, should i ask for larger kw?? as my worry is about hot water flow rate?? I have asked them to install boiler to the loft that will free up two cupboards in bungalow one for boiler and another for hot water cylinder at a cost of £3000.00 thoughts please.
I'm not gas safe but we've a three bed semi with a 28kw and were nice warm with enough hot water if that's what you really need to know. It's interesting that any info can always be found on 'THE TRIUMPH FORUM', but if it's to do about the new speed twin then it's a dealer question!! Snigger snigger!
well the engineer recommends the 28kw so it must be right, but for an extra £200 you could go up to the 33kw, depends if mains water pressure supports it. The make seems to be highly recommended though. The 28kw boiler is around the £750 mark and the 33 around the £900 so is the work hes going to do worth £2250
I forgot to mention the all important shower it has a pump delivering 9 ltrs a min from the hot supply.
That was my thoughts Labour is for 2 men and 2 to 3 days work(i have been told) but all supplies are in the loft already, He is also putting in a magnaclean, flushing old system putting in new programmer in along with a system pressure gauge / charge taps into a cupboard so not having to go to loft to check it from time to time, I guess gas safe plumbers don't come cheap these days.
We want to get rid of tanks and yes have heard boilers are not built to last like they use to, but do seam to be more eco friendly now a days to scrap em after 10 years.
mate of mine thinking of getting shot of his old boiler to, but he's looking for a good lawyer rather than gas safe engineer lol
Your new on here Tez Welcome in you have been reported and the men in white coats are on there way to Tyne on wear about's are you
Back to op. Ask about a 'MAGNA-CLEAN' It's a real good bit of kit and recent invention that takes the black sludge out of the system and leaves you with a very light tea coloured water. It can extend your boiler life by another 10 years as it collects all the iron and magnetic deposits.
Thank for that info TC, I have also heard because it needs servicing from time to time they end up leaking and then need replacing but they may have changed the design now.
Thanks Tig that is helpful is it a Baxi boiler without hot water cylinder ?? I have now gone along with crispey's advice and paying more for the 33kw,job to be done in April I hope.
